This agency has or had an office in Marlborough, which is

where I lived years back, when:



I had bought an old kick-around VW Beetle for about $350. The

insurance on my regular-commute-to-work car was through an

agency in Newton, where I grew up, and to where I didn't

feel like driving to put the Bug on the road.



So I strolled into an agency on Main Street in Marlborough;

I think Bouvier - some French name not too different from

my own, which is Boudreau. The car was so old, it pre-dated

the Title requirement, and I had my Bill of Sale and checkbook

with me.



I walked up to the counter, saying, "I want to put this old

beast on the road." The clerk - no youngster, but a real professional

looking woman, said, "Well, you can't just walk in and insure your

car like that." She caught me off-guard, which is a common

opportunistic approach for doing, or not doing, business.

It's also the way real jerks deal with life in general. Politicians

slither everywhere.



But the old buzzard had the good graces to suggest that I

go up the street to Stephen Gersh Insurance. I did just that.

Stephen himself was at the desk. I told him what had just

happened, and he said, "Nonsense, you CAN just walk in and

insure your car. In fact, it's illegal for an agent to refuse your

business."



I insured through Gersh, and stuck with him for about 8 years.

The only reason I got a different agent is because a different

agent asked me for my insurnce business.



And last year at this time, which was about 20-years after

the Bouvier Insurance meltdown, I found myself in a quandry.

Because my license had been revoked twice in 5 years for

being labelled a Habitual Traffic Offender (HTO) by the

Registry, I had stopped driving for about three years.



Last March, I paid a hefty fee to re-instate my license,

and in April, I bought a car. While waiting to take the Road

Test, which was mandatory, I set out to get my car insured

with just a Learner's Permit.



That's when hIstory repeated itself: I had already been told

by my old agent that someone in my family needed to be

put on my application for insurance and my registration.

Then, I walked-up to an agency in Framingham, where I

was told, "No, you have to take the road test...blah, blah."

Turned away, I walked up to Gersh's counter, told the cleark

my story, and she said, "Those other agencies should

know better, here let me see your paperwork."



Bing, bang, I was "On the Road."



Twenty years had come and gone, and still, the quickest

way out of the red tape was to hand it over to Stephen Gersh

Insurance.



They are very competent, quick, accommodating, and

professional. I'll stick with Gersh now.
