It just cost me $1150 for some teeth removal. There are plenty of kind and loving vets that do not gouge out there. Do not go,here
Great care, reasonable price

I recently moved here from Oregon and had to see a doctor for my cat after she got into the garbage. Again. The staff stayed after hours to do x-rays and bloodwork, and the doctor explained everything to me and answered all of my questions. And my cat didn't need surgery this time! It's so great that there is a local vet who took the time to take care of my cat and discuss care options with me rather than just tell me what to do. They even called to check in on her a few days later. I would totally recommend this vet to anyone looking for great pet care.
I will definitely go back

One of my co workers recommended Steamboat. Right from the first phone call I could tell I was going to love this hospital. My call was answered right away, the receptionist Becky was very sweet and helpful. She offered to get me in for an apt that same day for 7pm! I was very surprised to find out that they are open 7days a week with late hours 8pm during the week and 6pm on the weekends. When I got to my apt the receptionist greeted me with a big smile and hello and immediately acknowledged Bailey who was cowering behind me. She got down to her level and offered her comforting words and affection. I was put into an exam room right away with a very brief wait time before the doctor came in. I walked out feeling very satisfied with her care!
Caring employees and knowledgable doctors

I have been going to Steamboat Animal Hospital for the past year and a half, and I can honestly say I have never experienced such a warm, comforting environment. The employees obviously love their job, the doctors are all so knowledgable and kind, and I will continue taking my pets there as long as I am a dog owner. They have an exotic vet available that is genuinely concerned about patient and owner care, and their late hours are so helpful. I encourage any pet owner in need of care for their animal to visit Steamboat Animal Hospital!
If you want a salesperson rather than a vet than this is your place!

I have been going to Steamboat for MANY years, but every time I go I feel like my service gets worse and worse... The last few times I took my dog in I felt like the vets were trying to SELL to me. I go to the vet to get my dog treated and cared for by medical professionals not to get attacked by a high pressure sales team. I'm pretty sure that I'm paying enough just to bring my dog in to get spayed I don't need them trying to sell me the deluxe package! Then if you say no they basically make you feel like a horrible pet owner until you give in to the extra charges; "In case of an emergency don't you want your dog to be taken care of as best as possible?" "That will be an additional $50!" I will no longer be using Steamboat animal hospital!!
Steamboat did my cat an injustice
by Mom2myBabies , 07/26/2010
I have used Steamboat in the past for routine issues without any problems. I liked them b/c they have good hours and fees. However, I recently took in my cat b/c she suddenly could not move her hind legs. The vet told us that her body was simply failing her and led us in the direction of euthanizing her. Their evidence was that despite the fact that they were trying to heat up her body, her body temperature remained low. They also said that they had to force feed her. We were going to follow their advice until we went and saw how alert our kitty was. The vet gave us our cat and we expected her to die that night. She did not die and I did some research online and came up with a possible problem that was treatable, saddle thrombus. The vet cooperated with us in trying to treat the possible problem. They said they didn't think this was the problem but they could not rule it out. A week later, she was still alive, very alert, not in pain but still could not use her rear legs. We called Ste
Wouldnt bring your animal here!

Steamboat is run by Dr. Michael Murphy who also owns Healthy Pets, South Bay, Hawks Prairie Vet and multiple practices in Oly/Lacey as well as Portland and Tacoma. This man cares more about money than he does about his clients, animals or STAFF. He has been reported to L & I for labor violations and not following federal law for Family Medical Leave Act. His front office staff is hired based on the way they look and not on there skills or job performance. The only decent and experienced doctor they had on staff was Dr. Josh Schulz and he has since moved on to work for a Pfizer a pharmaceutical company! I do not recommend bringing your animal to this vet any more. Most of the staff is not properly trained or educated. They only have one licensed vet tech and the rest were all animal care people that moved up to a non licensed tech position. Keep in mind animal care people are usually high school students doing the cleaning. The doctors (most) are fresh out of vet school and do not have

Steamboat is a caring and loving hospital. I would recommend then to everyone. It's not just a job to them, they truly care about our pets.
