At St.Therese School’s we provide a challenging academic program for your child that includes language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, and religion (faith formation). Our instruction methodologies are research-based, time-tested, and traditional in nature. We believe in focusing on the whole child: body, mind, and spirit. We strive to recognize the God-given potential in each and every student. At St. Therese School, we offer smaller class sizes. This opportunity allows for in-depth instruction and gives teachers the opportunity to intervene quickly when remediation or enrichment are essential and appropriate. Fine Arts, Music, Spanish, Library, Physical Education, and Computer Skills are offered at all grade levels so that your child is receiving the best education possible. We encourage visitors and families to tour our school to learn more about the possibilities at St. Therese School. We are certain that you will see classrooms where children are actively engaged in the learning process. Our elementary classes are small (16-25 students). This enables teachers to really know and understand the individual learning style of each of their students.
St. Therese is a Catholic school. Everything we do – every decision we make – whether for curriculum, discipline, culture, and climate – is done so in reflection of our Catholic Christian beliefs. Prayer is an integral part of our daily life and routine. Students participate in weekly Mass as well as daily prayer. Community service and outreach form the basis of many of our activities and projects. St. Therese students learn the true meaning of stewardship beginning in Kindergarten. Every child is taught that we all have gifts and skills that God intends us to use for the betterment of His Creation.
St. Therese is a Core Knowledge School. This is a curriculum based on the some of the ideas presented by Dr. E. D. Hirsch, Jr. in his well-known books. In each grade students will be exposed to a broad assortment of historical, scientific, and cultural topics that will build on one another to prepare them for their later educational success. This wide array of subject matter will not only develop cultural literacy but also will build the strong vocabulary necessary for true reading comprehension. The Core Knowledge curriculum aims to develop cultural literacy in a way that is systematic but leaves room for creativity for both teacher and student.
St. Therese School utilizes NWEA-MAP testing (Northwest Evaluation Association: Measures of Academic Progress™). Students are MAP given tests to determine their instructional levels and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Math, and Language Arts. Your child will take the tests on a computer. MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.
Technology is a powerful tool for learning and St. Therese School strives to integrate technology into each academic discipline where appropriate. Our program includes:
•Computer lab with SMART Board
•MACPower Book portable lab
•5 desktop computers in Library/Media Center
•SMART Boards and pro
•Secure web-based grade book available to parents
•Online standardized testing through NWEA-MAP for students in Grades 3-8
