Relaxing, exhilarating, and just a little bit decadent, chauffeured travel through Oregon's varied wine regions is an ideal way to experience our area's thriving wine culture. Rising through the ranks, Oregon's nearly 400 wineries, and many more vineyards, have distinguished themselves with award-winning ultra-premium Pinot Noirs and spicy Zinfandels.

From the Applegate to the Columbia River, Oregon's volcanic past created ideal soil conditions for an abundance of grape varieties. Michael Donovan, managing director of Roxy Ann Winery says that the wine regions have diverse weather microclimates that allow for Syrah, Tempranillo, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Viognier and other wine grapes. Although the gorgeous area south of the Columbia River is growing, west of Interstate 5 produces most of Oregon's world-class wines.

"For tours from Ashland to Roseburg and from Crater Lake to Applegate, we are the official tour company of the Oregon Wine and Farm Tour, Gary West Meats, and Harry and David," says co-owner M. Kim Lewis of Main Street Tours in Ashland, "and all our tours have some touch of artisan food to complement the wines." He and his well-trained team look at wine tours as opportunities to help people experience and understand the indigenous foods of the region. "That's a true gourmet experience," he says. Tour leaders not only design customized itineraries for their clients, but also arrange meetings with owners and wine makers at exclusive boutique wineries not open to the public.

Each group, from two to twelve , travels in a luxury van, Lincoln Towncar or custom bus to 3-4 specially selected wineries. Tours may include enjoying the scenic views from Weisingers in Ashland or from Paschal in Talent. We have special wine and food pairings set up for us at Rising Sun Farms. Sometimes we'll have a gourmet box lunch under the veranda looking out into the winery at the Voorhies Mansion at Eden Vale Winery," says Lewis.
