Authentic Mexican Restaurant (Even the Decor) by Tyson - 09/06/2009I love eating at The Sonora Grill, and since it is such a beautiful restaurant, I asked the manager about some of the features. The adobe bricks on the walls were hand made in Mexico and shipped in crates to the U.S. where they were cut and used as a veneer for the walls. If you look closely you will see some small pieces of straw protruding from the bricks testifying to their authenticity. The chandelier that hangs in the waiting area was hand crafted and imported from Mexico as along with the decor throughout the restaurant such as vases, candles and all the wall hangings. The restaurant projects the image of humility and authenticity while doing it in an upscale manner. The colors are earthy and much of the staff speaks Spanish even though they are mostly gringos. Even if you walk into the Bathroom the stalls, lighting and terracotta floor tiles look like something straight out of South America. The food is really good too. It is one of the few places in Ogden I feel comfortabl
Can you be in love with a restaurant? by picky palette - 08/28/2009Because I think I am. If I could eat here every day I would. I love the ceviche...c'mon, be brave and try it, you will never go back. And I love the mojitos. Looove the salsa, loooove the corn on the cob...man, I am salivating just thinking about this, and the pureed black beans...love love love.Love.Love.love
Grill and More by Suzie - 08/20/2009The best secret I found out is this place has 1.50 tacos on Tuesday I ordered two and I was full. I could not believe I ate lunch at Sonora grill for less than five dollars. The tacos were so good they even had fresh pineapple on them. Holly Cow I can not believe what a good deal this is. Did I mention the chips and salsa that is free at the table soooooooo good.
AUTHENTIC MEXICAN by foodie - 08/18/2009If you haven't been into Sonora Grill yet - you have got to see the beautiful showpiece of Ogden. This is buy far the nicest, fine detailed buildout I have ever seen in Utah. But that's not where it ends - it's the FOOD!!! I've spent a lot of time in Mexico for work and vacation and take a lot of interest in food. Sonora Grill does an excellent job of incorporating authentic Mexican with some US interpretation. It's not Tex-Mex, but a refreshing spin on some traditional dishes. I LOVE IT!!!
The BEST restaurant in town!! by aly - 08/04/2009If you have not tried the Sonora Grill, you need to RUN, not walk to the Salomon Center in Ogden. The Sonora Grill has a wonderful variety of authentic mexican food you can't get anywhere else around here. I have NEVER been disappointed. Anytime we go out, this is where we go. They have a great menu selection, and the food is amazing!! Some of my favs include Carne Asada that melts in your mouth, the yummy salmon, and Arros con Pollo Chicken which is a taste you can't even imagine. I also LOVE their signature corn on the cob, and their salsa is one of a kind! I recommend this restaurant to all of my friends. The atmosphere is wonderful and unique. You will NOT be disappointed!!
Costa Vida? Taco Bell? by get a life - 08/03/2009Really? That is completely asinine. I really am sorry that your palate has decomposed to the point that you can't tell the difference between authentic gourmet mexican cuisine and the same old monotonous taste of fast food. But keep your ignorance to yourself. I have spent a good part of my life living in Mexico and I ate everything, however this restaurant offers the best mexican food I have ever had. The ceviche and Tacos al Pastor are amazing and just aren't available away from here. I have tried about everything on the menu by now and have loved it all. My wife and I make the hour drive trip down from Logan frequently because it is worth it. The pricing is totally fair for the presentation, atmosphere, service, and excellent food. And we are poor college kids. The service has always been incredible and believe us, those that have visited a heavy number of times, it is our favorite restaurant and we would recommend it to anyone.
AMAZING New Menu by ricky - 08/03/2009This restaurant outperforms my expectations with each visit. They just released their newest menu (they're on par with the finest restaurants that add new items every few months). This is one of the most unique atmospheres and the food is better than the best mexican restaurants I've eaten at in Chicago and Texas. You must try it!
even one star is too much by Disgusted in Ogden - 07/06/2009have been roped into this place twice, said after the first time would never go back, but was forced to go a second even more disgusting time. first time ordered the chicken, they served it not only raw,, but not even room temperature. last time got the salmon. thought it was filet of sole,,, as in the sole of my shoe. I not only do not recomend this place, I beg you not to go. only thing redeming about this place was the first time they made guacamole at the table, which was pretty good. the second time they stopped even doing this. Belive me when I say the service is worse than poor, the food (and I say food only because that is what they called it) was slow to be served and truly the worst I think I have ever had at any price. and the price is astronomical. Pick somewhere else. even taco bell outshines this place

so-so by Ventureguy - 04/14/2009Costa Vida has the same food for much less and you don't have to deal with a rude staff. Don't know how these 5 stars popped up at the same time, maybe they had a really great staff and cook on that one day, but when I went with friends, we all agreed, never again. too pricey, not that tasty, unskilled and adolescent staff. Long wait for food. We should have gone on Dec 1st.
AWESOME food by lloo - 04/05/2009I eat at Sonora every chance I get. Pretty much everything on their menu is amazing. I'd go check it out if you get a chance, definitely one of those hidden things in Ogden. Heaven knows Ogden doesn't have many!
Great restaurant in Ogden by Graham71 - 01/19/2009I was in town for business and went to see a Sundance film at the Egyptian Theatre on Saturday night and then walked over to Sonora Grill for a late dinner. My associates and I couldn't believe we were in Ogden, Utah. Very classy place with authentic offerings on the menu: ceviche, authentic tacos al pastor, tres leches, etc. Very complete bar menu as well.
I LOVE THE SONORA GRILL! by Food Critic23 - 12/02/2008The Sonora Grill is the best restaurant in Utah....
The atmosphere is upscale and the food is UNIQUE and FRESH. I love the ceviche and tacos al pastor. The complementary chips and salsa are THE BEST I have ever tasted at any mexican restaurant, anywhere. And you MUST try the banana split. It is not your typical banana split.
The service is friendly and fast. The manager actually came to our table to ask us how we liked our meal. That never happens!
If you havent been there, you really should go.
Long Drive for me, but worth every mile traveled! by suxel - 12/02/2008We drove down after thxgiving from Logan coz Logan is boring. After a movie, our options for lunch were CostaVida, Iggy's, Sonora. We thought to give Sonora Grill a try coz we like local 'hole-in-the-wall' places. We find that it was no 'hole' when we went in. We love the ambiance in the restaurant. Love the decors and colors. My wife even wants to steal their chandelier! When I opened the menu, I was shocked to see very unique items. I was expecting burritos and enchiladas. There were more than your usual "American Mexican food". There were some authentic stuff on there that you won't find anywhere else. Our server was fun. We felt like we're getting more than just a meal, we got the experience of dining out. It was such a blast! Food was actually really good. Not greasy like most AM-MEX food. It was a very refreshing change of style and flavor. We felt bad for our server coz we stayed for so long after our meal but he kept taking care of us even well past his "table turn-over" time.
Great restaurant in Ogden by Miss Jane - 12/01/2008I was in town for business and went to see a Sundance film at the Egyptian Theatre on Saturday night and then walked over to Sonora Grill for a late dinner. Surprised by regular guy - 12/01/2008I went online to find this number and book my company christmas party. I was shocked when I saw these reviews. I have been to Sonora Grill many times and I have always had a great experience. This restaurant is a welcome addition to downtown Ogden. I am also surprised that someone would go out of their way to damage the reputation of business in downtown Ogden. Downtown needs all the support that it can get. Do not believe the naysayers this place is great. To the naysayers, as a business owner, mistakes happen, give them another try.
For this? by jnurse - 09/18/2008It was apparent confusion in running a restaurant. We were seated at a table by a very confused hostess after she offered a booth that we told her we would prefer. Our waiter was nice and friendly. It took a very, very long time for our food to arrive, which was cold by time it came. The waiter and manager were nice, but it was not enough to make up for the disorganization. We barely ate and paid way too much to leave and go somewhere else. It was a waste of time and money.
