Think twice about Security Self Storage. Why?

• They don’t lock their vacant units.
• It takes just a screwdriver to remove the “wall” between units.
• Most units like ours have no camera surveillance.
• Pontiac Way location: the detective says he has break ins there “all the time”.

Because this company was too cheap to lock their units, irreplaceable property of ours going back 50+ years is gone.

I hold SSS completely responsible for this. We did our part, locked up our unit. SSS failed to do the same with its units. Thieves got into the unlocked vacant unit next to ours and removed the panels separating the units. And there is no camera surveillance to help us.

After we went though the mess, SSS replaced the panels. We asked what will prevent this from happening again and their answer was remarkable: they said they’d lock the other unit. So they recognize they should lock the vacant unit to prevent a second break in, they just don’t do so to prevent the first break in.

Upon selling our Denver home, we placed most of our belongings in the SSS units until we get settled. I asked the manager of our self storage here in New Mexico if vacant units are locked. “Of course they are” was the reply, and they are. They consider it a liability issue. They also have day/night vision cameras on every alley. And they display no pretense of “Security” in their name.

Security Self Storage is a cheapskate outfit and the word “Security” in their name is a joke.
