Women and children with a household income less than 185% of poverty guidelines and who have a nutritional risk are eligible to receive WIC assistance.

By providing nutritional education, promoting and supporting breastfeeding and improving access to health care, there is a marked improvement in birth outcomes, childhood cognitive development and immunization rates. WIC additionally focuses on reducing complications during pregnancy, reducing iron deficiency anemia and decreasing the number of premature and low birth-weight infants.

The Oregon WIC program serves statewide through county WIC clinics, Native American Tribal Organizations, Migrant Health and Head Start. WIC is a federally funded program.
