by Taylor Momo J. - 01/22/2012Went because I had a Groupon so I thought I'd try it.
Overpriced for the food quality. Clam chowder was full of sand grit. For the price I would have expected zero sand in it.
The appetizer steamed...

by Susan L. - 12/18/2011This restaurant is WAY over priced for the quality of food presented. Starting with the salad, the flavor of the ranch dressing was off... bad after taste. The halibut cheeks had no flavor and...

by Sponge H. - 12/07/2011We finally made it to the Salt Cellar after years of hearing how good it was. We had a groupon, so it made it more attractive for a first try. We were disappointed at the decor--or the lack of it.

by Roger B. - 11/07/2011Ok after reading all the reviews and seeing that it was split between 1 star and 5 stars I decided to give this place a shot with the help of a groupon. I figured the 1 stars were just people being...
Disappointed on our anniversary! by human - 11/19/2010The hostesses were unfriendly, the beef wellington tasted like liver, and the stuffed lobster smelled of strong chemicals--I couldn't eat it. Also, the decoration of the restaurant was bland and not what I expected. My husband felt that, for the prices, fresh, warmed bread should be served before dinner rather than cold slices of bread. However, our waitress was friendly, and the salad, soup, and dessert were good. Overall, the taste of the main entrees was concerning. I was worried that we'd get sick. We were very disappointed. Our meal for two was $125. We will not be back.
What happened to this restaurant? Absolutely horrible food tonight!!! by customer244 - 08/25/2010My husband and I met friends for dinner at the Salt Cellar, a favorite meeting place that always served the very finest over the past 30 years, but tonight has ruined their reputation with us forever. We both ordered the sea bass, char grilled, my husband ordered the rice pilaf and I ordered a baked potato, we both had salad before dinner and 3 different appetizers shared with our group of friends. The only thing good about the meal was the bread and the calamari (appetizer). The rest was fit for the garbage... Hard to understand, when the food is way overpriced, The Sea Bass was dry and flavorless, chewy. The salad was not chilled, and very unsavory... iceberg lettuce as opposed to fancier varieties, some canned mushrooms dumped on the side, the veggies were zuchinni only, the baked potato was tiny and hard. These chefs used to know how to cook, $34.95 per entree, they won't ever rob us again.
IF YOU LOVE LOBSTER YOU'LL LOVE THE SALT CELLAR by BOB AND DIANE - 12/01/2009My wife and I have been going to the Salt Cellar since we first met in 1991. We had tried so many seafood places in the valley and coming from New England the Salt Cellar was the best. (Even the old Famous Pacific Fish Company now closed could not hold a fork to the Salt Cellar and it was a very good resturant) The atmosphere is great and romantic. We celebrate our anniversay, Valentines Day and our Birthdays each year for the past 18 years. Never had a bad experience. From the days when Jeff and Coach were waiters to today we love the place and will be dinning there forever. (Also the two Happy hours especially the one from 10PM to 1:00 AM are great and so are the prices.)Salt Cellar forever.Bob and Diane
Classic New England by I love "Laubsta" !! - 09/17/2009If you are from New England and used to dining for lobster in that unique, rustic, old, and very authentic NE atmosphere this is the place for you. The lobster is superb, they will prepare it any way that you like and even crack it for you if you are a southwestern whimp. Even the servers are direct and crast like they are in the middle of Boston. Even the sides are simple and small.Having lived in New England for many years, I LOVE THIS PLACE. The dark, musty, shabbily decorated nautical environment takes me back to the east every time I eat there. If you are a snobby, chain or fad restaurant goer that likes to brag that you just got ripped off at the newest money pit restaurant in Scottsdale... there are and have been many over the years... you will hate this place. No frills, authentic seafood, especially the lobster, and a great northeastern atmosphere. Exactly what a lobster restaurant should be.
POOR! by Stomp - 09/05/2009I went here w/ my family the first and ONLY time last night. The prices are high and the quality of service and food are poor. The hostess was extremely rude, commenting on our attire even though we were similarly dressed as other patrons. The food was average at best; I had the shrimp scampi which was inedible. I returned the meal unfinished and barely eaten as it tasted as if it were cooked in Pine-Sol. The prices were very high for the quality of food and rude and unprofessional greeting. The hostess, an older white female w/ above the shoulder length hair should at least wait until the guests of her place of employment have left before disparaging their attire with such disdainful comments as, "Have you seen the ones that just walked in?"The table server, at least, was polite and professional, but that along w/ a "cool" building certainly do not justify the overly high prices. I WOULD NOT recommend this place to anyone, I know there is better service and seafood for less money s
Good seafood by martha - 10/21/2007Good seafood in a very unique setting.
excellent seafood by Azgirl - 10/11/2007Excellent seafood, great ambiance.
Cramped and No Privacy by randy - 10/09/2007I took a date here and expected am intimate and unique experience. I knew it would be expensive, but it was a special date and I was prepared to spend a fair amount for a great meal in a great, romantic atmosphere. What we experience was a crowded, almost claustrophibic dining area where we were seated at a table jammed in between two others so close to ours that we had to whisper to tell each other secret loving words. If it wasn't so crowded we would have waited until, hopefully, a better table became available. We were also hungry, however, the atmosphere was so loud, cramped, and disappointing I don't really remember what we ordered. It was obviously not very memorable.
