Its stores also have adjacent Starbucks coffee shops, pharmacies and fuel centers. Steven A. Burd has been the chief executive officer of Safeway for more than 13 years. He has been with the retail grocery giant for over 14 years. Burd earned a bachelor s degree from Carroll College Wisconsin, and a MA from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Safeway operates through a network of distribution, manufacturing, storage, and food processing facilities located throughout the United States, and is headquartered in Pleasanton, Calif.
