While physicians manage these symptoms with medication, surgery, and/or various orthopedic devices, chiropractors use their hands. One of the key beliefs of chiropractic is that most diseases are due to misalignment of the spinal vertebrae that results in the abnormal flow of nerve impulses from the brain to the rest of the body.

So here’s the bottom line: If you have an orthopedic problem that has not responded to conventional care, it’s reasonable to try the chiropractic approach. Discuss the option with your doctor. I often refer my own patients for such therapy—except those with neck problems.
