TYPES OF PONDS
Wheather it be your ornamental fish pond, watergarden or a complete custom koi pond there are several types of ponds. Here are a few:

CHLORINATED POND
This pond has no fish or plants and is strictly for aesthetic purposes. The pond usually has some sort of mechanical filtration and the owner uses chemicals such as chlorine and algacide to keep pond clear.

WATERGARDEN
This type of pond has an abundance of water plants that help with filtration. These ponds should have a small fish load and several types of water plants, ex: marginals, free floating, and submerged plants. Also, these ponds normally have an attached biologial filter of some sort.

ORNAMENTAL FISH POND
The most common type of pond, this is your average backyard pond. The pond is not overly large in size and has adequate filtration attached. Usually a good large bio-filter as well as an ultraviolet light for water clarity and pond health. This pond is not overly stocked with goldfish or koi and has no extra large fish.

CUSTOM KOI POND
This is the very small percent of ponds, although most people say they have "koi ponds", they are truely no setup the way koi ponds should be. Koi Ponds are normal large with at least 100 ft. of surface area as well as being deep. The ponds can support very large Koi, 2'+ as well as big fish loads. These ponds have very advanced filtration with large bottom drains, settlement tanks, skimmers, and water return jets to name couple things. These are the "Bentleys" of ponds and are more costly than regular ponds. These ponds are normally chosen by the pond veteran that has had a couple ponds and wants the very least maintenance.
