Founded in 1969, Petaluma Poultry is a company focused on products for specialty ethnic markets. In 1979, the company built its own feed mill to provide the highest-quality feed for its chickens. The company later widened its focus into the natural foods market and stopped its use of antibiotics in feed. It developed a feed based on proteins of corn and soy with no animal byproducts, animal fat or antibiotics. This led to the introduction the first commercially-available free-range chickens. The company's sustainable farming practices distinguish these chickens from those raised conventionally in the United States. Petaluma Poultry has an office in Petaluma, Calif.
