BUSINESS OVERVIEW
Veterinarians
Description
Pet Samaritan Clinic was established in the early 1900's to care for horses that were used to pull trolleys from Willamette River into the Portland residential area. Though Pet Samaritan now offers complete veterinary care to a wide range of smaller animals, it still remains in its original location (2519 E Burnside). The clinic is owned by Patricia Huff, DVM, who has operated it since 1982. Pet Samaritan is a full service veterinary clinic treating birds, cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, barnyard poultry and pocket pets including hamsters, rats, mice and gerbils. We are certified in the performance of ultrasounds and offer acupuncture as well.So much can be said about "Man's Best Friend." Domesticated about 15,000 years ago, dogs are the most popular pet in America, with nearly 40% of U.S. households owning at least one dog. Dogs are intelligent, playful, loyal companions, happy to share the company of humans.
Cats are wonderful pets that can bring us so much joy. Having a cat has been proven to be good for our health too!
As with all pets, it is important that you provide your kitty with the love and care it needs to live a long and happy life.
Dogs are not difficult pets to keep, but they do require a serious commitment on the owner's part. As pack animals, dogs are very social and require the companionship of other dogs or people. If left alone frequently for long periods of time, undesirable habits often result; such as excessive barking, chewing, digging, and escaping from the yard. Dogs need daily exercise and walks outside the confines of the yard, a healthy diet, vaccinations and wellness exams.
Our walls are covered with cards and letters of gratitude from clients!
Amazingly, many of these heartfelt notes were written after a beloved pet passed away. Every devoted pet owner knows that they will likely outlive their four-footed friends and can only hope that when illness or old age sets in, caring medical professionals can improve quality of life, ease discomfort, and help provide for a peaceful passing. It is Pet Samaritan's goal to do everything we can for your pet, in sickness and in health.
"I don't have the words to thank you for all your kindnesses to Lottie Lu and me over the years. Because of your thoughtful care she lived a long and healthy life, and because of your gentleness and joy she was always delighted to take a trip to Pet Samaritan. You made her feel welcome and happy each time she came."
"Thanks very much for the flowers and card after our cat Oedi passed away a couple of weeks ago. We always appreciate your thoughtfulness and sensitivity during those difficult times, even though we've been through it several times. It's always very hard but all of you are a tremendous help for us."
