Corporate, non caring, OK if your parent is fully independent but no good if not

by Coronadolrm , 04/12/2013

I put my mother here to live when she could not longer drive and needed help. The facility is visually impressive on the inside (fountains, nice furniture), and they claim to be able to care for residents if they need extra help. Well, for 3 years my mother needed no help, and she adjusted pretty well, although she and all her friends complained about the food. Then my mother fell, and went to St Rose Hospital. She was in the hospital for 8 days or so. During her stay she was getting confused and weaker, which often happens when you stay in the hospital too long. So I brought her back to her room one night, and the next day I get a call from the Palms saying that mother is being uncooperative. She won't let them touch her, help her to the bathroom, she won't eat. So Palms calls 911 and tells them to take her back to the hospital. Palms tells me that we can talk later about what extra help she may need when she returns. The hospital says, we can't do anything, there is no reason for her to be here. So i call the Palms, and they say, she can't come back, we don't want her. What about the extra help, I ask? We don't want her.So--if your parent needs help, DO NOT GO HERE!! This is a corporate money making operation posing as a caring facitility, it is not. If your parent is independent, and does need help, then maybe it's OK. But there isn't any outside place to walk around, and the food is bad. I moved my mother the Cottages, not as nice a facade, but a completely different experience caring wise. They are all about taking care of the elderly who need help.
