The Paducah & Louisville Railway operates more than 270 miles of track in the western half of Kentucky. Its 223-mile main line runs between Paducah and Louisville; branch lines connect Paducah to Mayfield; and Kevil and Cecilia to Elizabethtown. The railway connects with Class I railroads at three locations: in Paducah, with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the Canadian National, previously the Illinois Central Railroad; at Madisonville, with CSX Transportation; and at Louisville with the CP Rail System, CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Corporation. Class III short line connections are at Princeton with the Fredonia Valley Railroad, Inc. and at Louisville with the Louisville and Indiana Railroad Company. The company serves chemical plants, coal mines, clay and stone quarries, lumber and propane distributors, farm and mine equipment suppliers, warehouses, transloads, bulk terminals, river ports and one military base.
