Opportunity Village is a not-for-profit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities by providing them with vocational training, employment and social recreation services that make their lives more productive and interesting. Through Opportunity Village’s programs and services, hundreds of people with disabilities are learning vocational skills and being placed in jobs throughout the community
Community Services offers assessment and training to disabled individuals in our community so that they can develop the work skills, competency and confidence towards working independently.
Work Assessments are performed in an integrated work setting where eligible individuals, who are referred and funded by the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, are assessed on work readiness and interactions with supervisors and others. Several work assessment settings are available: Janitorial, Landscaping, Culinary, Retail, Warehouse, and Office.
The Janitorial Assessment Program consists of cleaning bathrooms, offices, windows, trash removal, carpet vacuuming, and dusting.
Landscaping is also part of the janitorial assessment program. Individuals perform general grounds clean-up, mowing and edging lawns, pruning trees, and checking irrigation equipment.
The Culinary Assessment Program consists of dishwashing, bussing and setting tables, serving, kitchen sanitization, cashiering, and food preparation.
The Retail Assessment Program takes individuals through the retail process from unloading merchandise at delivery through cleaning, tagging, and stocking merchandise. Individuals may also train on the cash register.
The Office Assessment Program gives participants the experience of working in a real office setting where they perform tasks such as filing, answering phones, taking messages, and light computer work.
The Warehouse Assessment Program includes the areas of shipping and receiving, inventory tracking, inventory control, stocking, and delivering merchandise.
