Best Care Anywhere....Kindest and most compassionate

Dr. Sheegog and staff have cared for my 3 cats and 1 dog since 1996. Recently, my Lab had started to develop a knuckling gait along with difficulty getting up and walking on smooth surfaces. Symptoms were not pronounced and I thought his long nails may be the problem along with age (11). I took him in for a nail trim. After the trim was done, an assistant asked if I could stay a few minutes as Dr. Sheegog wanted to speak with me. Dr. Sheegog mentioned that he gave him an exam and noted the gait and recommended a prescription for osteoarthritis, Dr. knows I had been reluctant to give this medication and addressed those concerns as well. Feeling comfortable with the treatment plan we started the meds. Unfortunately, The Mav became worse very quickly. Dr. Sheegog called me after hours and explained that he had suspected DM....that was devastating to hear! Dr. Sheegog gave it to me straight.....I would have to make the "quality of life" decision for The Mav....my best friend and sidekick. That next day Mav stumbled and could not regain his footing....it was time. The hospital staff stayed late on Memorial Day weekend to see us. Everyone thinks their dog is special, I am no different. I was reassured that Maverick was special during his last visit....the staff cried right along with me. Maverick loved going to see Dr. Sheegog and he was particularly fond of Brandi....the minute he walked in the door, he would jump up on the counter to greet her with the tail of mass destruction wagging non-stop!Maverick's passing came at a very difficult time for me financially......Brandi offered payment arrangements which I told her I would be able to let her know what I could do in a couple days, I just couldn't think at the time. I lost my job of 10 yrs after returning to work from the holiday. Great...just great! After a couple rounds of phone tag, Dr. Sheegog got me...he inquired how I was holding up and wanted to express his sympathy, he truly loved Maverick. I just started balling my eyes out and told Dr. Sheegog about the loss of my job and all the financial stress I had and how much it bothered me that Maverick was still in "the morgue"Dr. Sheegog told me not to worry about the bill and he would take care of the cremation.Cremation is a separate service that Dr. Sheegog does not provide. Dr. Sheegog paid for Maverick's final services himself. If that is not a Dr. and Staff that truly cares for the animals and people they treat.....you'd be hard pressed to find anyone better than Onslow Animal Hospital. Many have the misconception that veterinarians make alot of money...they do not, the overhead is very high and the Dr. plays many roles.. as opposed to a "human" physician, vets are:.Dr. radiologist, surgeon, dermatologist, dentist, pharmacist, etc....for patients that can't always tell them what is wrong. I am a former licensed small animal veterinary technician and small animal dietitian, Onslow Animal Hospital is accredited by AAHA, which places strict standards on Drs, hospitals and staff to maintain the accreditation and in my experience Onslow Animal Hospital far surpasses the standards required.Yesterday, I received in the mail a card from Dr. Sheegog expressing heartfelt condolences and the most special image....Maverick's paw print. I will be forever appreciative of the care and kindness everyone at Onslow Animal Hospital has always given..

Can't thank you enough

Our 11 year old cat, Bes, developed a large rapidly growing mast cell tumor on her eyelid which had to be removed. The staff and the surgeon treated Bes and me just like family. They were so kind and gentle with Bes that she didn't get upset even when they drew blood for the surgery. Everyone was really helpful and concerned. The pre surgery through post surgery was very difficult for me. When I picked Bes up our vet was professional and caring. He even called later that evening to check on Bes. I would definitely highly recommend Onslow Animal Hospital for the care of any pet!Oh, and he called me a few days later to give me the good news that the pathology report was negative for cancer.

horrible place

After my friend bringing her two perfectly healthy puppies here to get them fixed and having them die the next day, i would not recommend this place to a person with a pet i hated.

Absolutly horrible!

If I could give them no stars I would!I took my dog there and she is a very nice calm dog. You can tell just by looking at her. First, they did a heart worm test. They took her to the back and did not allow me to go with her. The doc then came in and talked about her a little, and then she went to the back and brought out some other woman. I asked why she was there and they said "To hold your dog still while we check her eyes and give her her shot" They check her eyes and my dog was being great! I was holding her head still (not that she was resisting anyway) and the other woman that came in moved my hands all rudely so that she could hold her. Then, when they were going to give her the shot the woman literally put my dog in a head a lock. (this is a 35 pound border collie by the way) When she was put in that head lock my dogs eyes changed, she was so scared and they weren't even giving her the shot yet!For a check up, heart worm test, a shot, and heart wor meds it cost me almost $4

REVOKE

I have been asked to Revoke a REVIEW.I have contacted this website about REMOVING IT and its IN PROCESS! HERE IS MY "REVISED" REVIEWI had been taking my dog here for just shy of a year. I complained multiple times over Multiple visits that my Dog walked funny and wasn't active. This is the only VET I had taken her too, and All they did was shrugged me off like she was fine. Well She wasn't! I finally got fed up with it and took her to a different vet. I found out she has HIP DYPLASIA. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS VET!

$$$ MONEY HUNGRY VET! $$$ BEWARE $$$$$

If I could put NEGATIVE stars I would.I had been taking my dog Trinity here for just shy of a year. The Vet bills Were INSANELY expensive, for routine shots and Exams. I complained multiple times over Multiple visits that my Dog walked funny and wasn't active. This is the only VET I had taken her too, and All they did was shrugged me off like she was fine. Well She wasn't! I finally got fed up with it and my worried self took her to a different VET and within 5 min of a REAL EXAM (not just PETTING my dog) This new DOCTOR needed to do Xrays and we found out she has HIP DYPLASIA. All her life (of 10 months current) the Vets here @ Onslow Told me she was fine and not to be concerned. If I could I would smack them for their stupidity, I am not a licensed Vet and I don't pretend to be, but as a dog owner you know best what your dogs health is. My Dog is 10 Months old and she has NEVER jumped and I told them that. What kinda puppy doesn't jump or play? Do not Go here! if you want a good

Five Stars

I give Onslow Animal Hospital five stars for the quality and care they showed both me and my cat, Eugene.Eugene had gotten into the garbage and ingested four tuna covered AAA batteries. The wonderful staff helped both myself and Eugene through this trying time.
