    Really takes good care of my dogs

    Money hungry malpractice

    I only went to this animal hospital for convience and it was close to my home. That was the WORST thing I've ever done for my pet because after one of their deadly vaccinations my six month old dog was near death. Three days after my poor dog had a 105 fever and was unable to move. I returned trusting the vet's service FOOLISH OF ME. He wanted me to spend $500 for JUST TESTING and gave her pain pills and antibodotics. WHICH DIDNT HELP! A week later there was no improvement so I return hoping to get some answers; instead he pushed the fact that she needed $500 of testing done in order to find the cause. He never mention doing research on the vaccinations given, ask for a second opinion, or actually cared. After doing a blood test and an unneeded tick test he perscribed more pain pills and antibodotics. I soon felt uneasy about his service and went to another vet. who actually took the time to call an vet. university and do research on the vaccination given. DONT TAKE YOUR PET TO OAKWOOD UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY TO KEEP YOUR DOG ALIVE CAUSE THEY KILL FOR CASH.

    Oakwood Animal Hospital was recommended to me by several friends prior to my move to Tallahassee. I am very pleased to say that the care my two dogs have received has been excellent. They both are special needs dogs. Today my tripod, Cassidy, had his teeth cleaned and hernia surgery. He is doing well. My "boys" deserve their special treatment every time they go. I am grateful to all at Oakwood who care for our special family members. They taken the time to explain information, listen to my concerns and establish a realistic approach to pet health care. Dr Matt is on the lookout for extra leg lying around for Cassidy. Now what kind of special service is that.

    Ok, I'll try to be brief. I'm not what people consider an average "pet owner". In fact, it kinda bothers me when people refer to my 3 "babies" (two min pins, one pit bull) as pets or dogs. I know I'm not the only one that feels that way. Anyway, I've been taking the two min pins to Oakwood for basically their entire lives. I never really got to know Dr. Mike nor did I ever have the opportunity to just talk to him man to man. Unfortunate, but that's just the way it was. I still felt I got great care for my babies. One day, I hear that there is going to be a management change. I was thinking "dangit, now I have to wonder if the next person is going to take care of my babies like I've come to expect from Oakwood". Well, fast forward to my first encounter with Dr. Simmons: the dude talked to me like a man, always made eye contact, and explained EVERYTHING to me! hahaha...I didn't understand many of the clinical words he was using, but damn if he didn't explain what every one meant (at the time)! :) All jokes aside, Dr. Simmons actually cares about my babies so much that he wanted me to understand everything that was/is going on with them. This FAR exceeded my expectations of "new management". My oldest min pin (Spike-my boy!) hasn't been in better physical shape since he was 5 years old. He's about 12 now. When Spike was diagnosed with diabetes, everyone helped me learn everything I need to know about how to manage the diabetes. The first thing that struck me about Dr. Wanous is noticing how "down to earth" he is with my babies. I'm certain that Zona (my pit bull-she's the true love of my life) has a total crush on Dr. Wanous. Everybody that has anything to do with getting my babies better, keeping them in good health, weekend boarding, or just routine checkups have been nothing but awesome. I like that everyone knows my name. I feel welcome there...and more importantly, my babies feel welcome there. High five Oakwood! Love y'all!

    I'm a student and had two sick cats on my hands! Oakwood was very accommodating and they give students (with valid IDs) student discounts, which helps a lot. The vet and everyone else was fantastic. Very caring and genuine. I even had a follow up call the next day to check on my kitties and from the vet directly later in the week. The little things make a big difference! Wish I knew about this place sooner.

    I cannot begin to express the compassion and sensitivity that was shown to my fur baby and my family during an extremely difficult time. Though it was very difficult to hear, Dr Matt was very honest but, by no means, brutal. Dr Matt and all staff we encountered were very caring, kind, sympathetic and campassionate. We can not begin to express our gratitude enough.

    Dental Cleaning

    I just took my dog to get a dental cleaning from Dr. Simmons. Our dog Zoe is 9 years old was getting horrible breath. I never had her teeth cleaned new I had to do something. Dr. Simmons gave me an idea on what to expect from a dog her age and history of non cleanings and gave me a quote. I got a call from Dr. Simmons while he was performing the work and told me what needed to be done. It was less then he expected and showed me exactly what was done on ex-rays and charts. I picked up Zoe with directions on what to do and got a call the following day "Saturday" to check on her. This was great service, her breath no longer smells, and she is healthier. Thank you so much!!!!

    Dr. Simmons is about the kindest, most empathetic vet I've ever met. He took excellent care of our 20 year-old cat and was compassionate but honest when she needed to be put down. He answers questions, spends lots of time with his patients (two legged and four) and always follows up once you take your animal home. I highly recommend this veterinary practice

    I've been a loyal customer since 1997 and have taken six different "kids" to see the Drs. Through the years, I've had them provide me with good care for my "kids", no more than recently when I had two of my boys get cancer. Their care and concern for my boys as they were treated for this awful disease was beyond compare. I continue to remain a loyal customer.
