I'm not sure why other reviewers are implying or outright accusing of misleading billing etc. When I made my appointment I was told about a price special they had for it, at the end of my appointment the cost of the work I needed done was itemized and clearly explained to me and they were very sensitive to my budget in planning the work. Having said that, I would like to add I am a dental-phobe. I hate going so much that by the time I did, I was embarrassed about the state of my teeth. Dr. Schaarf was extremely comforting, and I am actually looking forward to completing the process and having a beautiful smile at the finish line.

A few months ago I met with Dr. Scharf to discuss a new product his dental office was offering called Under Armour Performance Mouthwear. I had read some literature on it and was a bit skeptical as to whether or not it would work. I am a recreational weightlifter who was looking to find ways to improve my performance in the gym. This mouthwear was supposed to help me lift more weight!?! After messing around with supplements that didn't work and personal trainers who weren't vested in my success, I decided to look into this "mouthwear". Dr. Scharf was very thorough in explaining how the mouthwear worked and if it was the right thing for me. At no point did I feel as though he was trying to "sell" me something. I decided to give it a try, and man, did I make a good decision. Without a doubt, my performance in the gym went to the next level. Without boring you with too many details, the best way I can describe the effectiveness is that my last few rep of each set got much stron
Poor service with unpredictable billing.

Make sure to discuss about the cost before you meet the doctor. My wife went for a clarification after initial checkup doctor advised her without telling her that the clarification would be billed and how much it will be billed. They billed more than The dentist I visited so far will let me know the price before they do anything regardless of whether it is 1st visit or 10th visit.
Dr Scharf and his office staff are out to sell big!! Make SURE you get the full cost ahead of time.

Dr Scharf started treatment without informing me of the full cost ahead of time. He left me with a temporary crown so that I was not able to shop around. Be very, very careful, he and his assistant Andrea are very slick and smooth.Get a specific, accurate, written estimate before you allow him to proceed! If you are dissatisfied then Andrea has a memorized response and she will inform you that they have covered all the legalities. You've been warned.

Going to the dentist doesn't really seem to be anyone's favorite thing to do. In fact, most of my life, I have always dreaded my appointment weeks before it even came. However, since I have started going to Northwoods, I take better care of my teeth, I don't dread my appointments, and I even feel like I'm heading to check in and catch up with friends. Thanks Northwoods.

You guys are awesome, the lady I saw was very nice. The front desk is very friendly also. A great dental office in Plymouth!
Andrea does not live-up to the friendly and professional image of Northwoods Dental.

After twenty plus years of being with Dr. Scharf's office my family will be leaving because of an encounter with Andrea. Her tone and attitude were highly unprofessional and condescending. I don't have a problem with the policy, I do have a problem with the way I was treated. I really like Dr. Baldwin and the rest of the staff. I am not a person to complain but this incident made me want to walk out of the office on the spot! If I wouldn't have been between a temporary and permanent crown I would have done just that. I would rather change dentists than have to deal with Andrea even one more time. Mary

We switched dentists to Northwoods about a year and a half ago. Since switching, four of our family members have had a "cavity" after every visit. None of us had ever had any cavities in the past, until we started seeing Dr. Baldwin. They claim to use this machine that checks the density of your teeth to determine if there are cavities. After one day the hygienist told me the machine might be registering as a cavity because the tooth had sealant on it. However; the dentist jumped to conclusions and required I get the cavity filled. It seems like they are out to make at much money off of you as possible. Beware if they tell you every visit you have a cavity.
An extra appointment at an extra cost

My insurance ignorant husband was told when he came in for a cleaning that he should schedule a "deep cleaning" appointment in addition to the one he was there for (which was supposed to be a "normal cleaning/check up".) Needless to say, most insurances only cover one "check up" every six months and the deep cleaning wasn't that much different, but of course was a much bigger cost out of our pocket. Not that they are crooked, I just don't think they REALLY had our best interest in mind. Never had problems before and times are hard, but still...
