Our business was founded by Kenneth Northrop and began as a rig service welding company in the 1950's, Northrop Welding. He noticed a need for steam boiler mechanics and began to learn the trade. He serviced boilers for the oilfield industry throughout the Rocky Mountain Region and was given the nickname Frosty Balls Boiler Works.

Our business was founded by Kenneth Northrop and began as a rig service welding company in the 1950's, Northrop Welding. He noticed a need for steam boiler mechanics and began to learn the trade. He serviced boilers for the oilfield industry throughout the Rocky Mountain Region and was given the nickname Frosty Balls Boiler Works.
After servicing boilers for many years Kenny became a sales representative for Superior Boiler Works in the 1970's. Together they designed for production a steam boiler made specifically for drilling rigs: The Oilfield Special.
Also in the 1970's the company became Northrop and Son Boiler Works as Kenny's son Jerry began to learn the trade. Together they repaired and serviced industrial boilers in hospitals, schools, banks, and office buildings, while still selling and servicing oil field boilers and air heaters.
In 1985 Kenny retired, handing operations over to his son Jerry. Northrop Boiler Works LLC was born. Over the next 19 years the company continued to grow and in June of 2004 the NBW facility expansion was underway. By 2005 the facility had grown from 3,000 square feet to 12,640 square feet. With the aid of the 25 ton overhead crane installed during the expansion there have been over 95 repaired and serviced boilers moved through our new shop, and 75 new boilers sold and made rig ready to customer specifications.
