Dan's father, Dwight L. Newcomer, started in the funeral business in Brodhead, February 25, 1930 when he became associated with Paul Schilling. They also operated Fuller Furniture store, until the death of Mr. Schilling in 1934. Dwight then discontinued the furniture business. At that time, he opened Newcomer Funeral Home at the 602 10th Street location. Dan's mother, Mrs. Marie Newcomer, was closely associated with the business and was a licensed funeral director.
