Mountain Empire Veterinary Services

I've been taking my pets here for about 7 years. They are always treated professionally and nicely. I've never had any problems. I've had 3 cats neutered and spayed here and they saved my rabbit's life because what I thought was simple diet change was actually a parasite. They vaccinated her and she was back to normal within a few days. Very affordable prices and quick service. I have used Julia's Jungle as well for grooming and it's been wonderful and easy every time.

very painful to my dog , sloppy surgery

i took my dog in to have a bee bee pellet taken out from under the skin on his back and a small mole removed near the mouth. my darling aussie Shepard dog was in such pain when I picked him up he cried from 4pm till he fell asleep finally at 11pm, I have had him since he was born and now he's 9, they must have had cut an important tissue or muscle or did some injury there. I feed him homemade vege. raw foods etc. and he is v. healthy, this was a minor thing that caused him so MUCH pain... when I called the office at 5:30 they said oh he'll be ok. the staff is not trained right. and is too busy.

Zero Campassion and rude Staff

We brought our mastiff in on thursday for some issues she was having with her legs. We received a call stating there was nothing they could and we decided to put her down. We didn't want her to suffer! We decided to have her cremated and were told that she would be delivered to our home. We wrote them a check and told they would take care of everything for us. The services they used has a 2 day turn around time for the return of your animal. After 4 days I call the vet and asked what was going on, they advised that they will not release our "property" to us until I can prove the check had cleared my bank. I asked them to contact my bank to confirm the check had cleared 2 days before that, they refused. I contacted my bank and they confirmed the check had cleared and all the vet has to do is call them and they would confirm that. Again, the vet refused to do that. I ended up having to drive the 25 mins into town just to show them on my phone the check had cleared. They released penelope back to us but kept referring to her as our property not our pet. I couldn't believe they would call our baby property. They refused to let us speak to the vet stating that she was too busy. I have never been treated so pourly before - during a time of saddness my family didn't need this added stress!

Ok, I gave a one star because they told me that my dog tested negitive for worms. I watched my dog go to the bathroom, and seen the white worms on her fecal. Tech tried to say no it was from the ground. I said no I watched the dog go and as soon as it hit the ground the worm does not just jump up on the fecal. Come on I'm not stupid !!!. I picked it up right then after my dog went. Put it in a clear plastic bag. So how long did they wait to test it? The worm will just die, so how are they going to see it? Don't tell that I didn't see the worm on the fecal!!! I wish the vet would of talked to me, I would have told her the same as I told her staff. I more than likely will not take my dog back there. I have seen alot of the reviews with the comments, and I don't think I can trust this vet. Got meds from them so tell me why did they give them to me if they didn't think my dog had worms??

Please Please Do Not take your pet here. Youll be so sorry!

Our 2 month old puppy walked in with 4 legs and 6 weeks later walked out with 3. They amputated the puppys leg because they let gangrene set in to the leg. The whole 6 weeks that she had the splint on i dont think they checked the splint once. Its sad that a simple broken knee led to our puppy losing its leg. They are to busy to give the proper care to each animal.

Best Care

I ave been taking my dogs to see Julia for many years. I am always included in my dogs care and I see the vet every time I am there. She is wonderful about making sure my dogs get the right dose for their vaccines and is very loving and kind no matter what my dogs are there for. You can't get better care any where.

love mountain empire vet and its help!

mountain empire vet is awesome, i can take my animals in for vaccination updates and don't have to pay for a "visit" they have made it convenient for me (and you). sure i can talk to the vet if i want to make an appointment. i for one am grateful for the wonderful staff and doctor there and for the awesome people at julias jungle, i can leave my animals there and KNOW that they are loved by all the staff on either side. THANK YOU mountain empire and julias jungle for loving my pets and all the pets that come thru you're doors! thank you too for making it convenient for us to get our vaccinations updated!

They overvaccinated my dog and she died as a result of their negligence.

You will notice several reviews about this vet clinic where people write that their pet's vaccines were completed in under 30 seconds. This is a little scary for a pet owner because it raises questions about whether the shots were measured for weight, whether the correct vaccines were given, etc. This quick turnaround for vaccines is standard practice at Mountain Empire, and my five-year-old dog was overvaccinated and had to be put down after having a really terrifying reaction to way too much active vaccine. Do not take your family pets here... the level of care provided is shockingly poor and there is no face-to-face contact with the vet, ever. I was so devastated to lose my dog, and it makes me even sadder that her death could have been prevented if the staff at Mountain Empire had bothered to do their jobs in a careful and professional manner. There are other inexpensive vets in Spokane Valley (TLC Vet, All Creatures), and their vets will actually meet with you at each visit.

Obviously Misunderstood

I would like to give my response to the people that claim to have had a bad experience here. Dr. Leese provides care for pets at a super affordable rate. I had my cat stitched up and the bill was a third of what I would have paid at any other vet. She does the best that she can to offer affordable care. It is not the individual care where you have a set appt. go in to the room talk to the vet etc. There is no way that she could offer this great pricing if she had to individually talk to each owner. You are the consumer and you have the right to choose if you wish to pay inflated vet bills in order to get the service you want. The animals receive great care here. She cares about animals and people that is why she offers the low rates, so animals will get the care that they need. I have another vet that I pay much higher fees to when I want on the spot answers and someone to talk to. When my animal has a cut or a UTI that is not life threatening I take them here. Thank you Julia & Staff.

ZERO contact with vet, TERRIBLE costomer service

We have been to their office on four occasions and have yet to even catch a glimpse of the vet, even after a surgery when we specifically asked to speak with the vet about aftercare. The receptionist went to the back to get the vet, and came back citing that they were too busy to meet with clients (which is a pretty accurate picture of how they do business). All of our contact has been through receptionists and support staff, who are not properly trained to advise on more than basic pet health questions. Their prices are low (which is why we went in the first place); however, after a recent vaccination we had to rush our pet to a pet emergency clinic to deal with a reaction to a high dose of active virus (negligence from Mountain Empire, in the words of the emergency vet). It turns out the vaccinations were given by untrained staff and were all given via injection (kennel cough vaccine is usually given through the nose to avoid too many injected viruses at once). AVOID Mountain Empire Veterinary Services

This place is awful, maybe if you could actually see the vet it'd be different, but it's always their receptionist staff that seems to do all the minor vet work like shots and I've never seen Dr. Leese before after two visits there. There won't be a 3rd visit, this last time they'll ever hurt my dog. We took it for it's 1 year old rabies vaccination shots and she's not walked now in two days, she yelps if she moves or turns over in bed, she looks at us with sad and questioning eyes as if asking what's wrong. I can't believe we paid these people to hurt our dog. Maybe if Dr. Leese would take care of her business instead of allowing these front desk people to be doing everything then bad things like this wouldn't happen. They'll never touch my dog again, don't let them hurt yours!

Nice place

I took my dog there for a procedure and not only was the staff nice, they treated my dog very well. She isn't my normal vet as I live in CDA, but I would take her there again. If you live in the area, I do recommend this vet. As for other negative comments on urine smell and it being dirty, I didn't notice ANY odor, and it was clean. They have great house cats too, very sweet and they seem happy and spoiled!

How is she still in business?

I asked the rude staff at the desk to microchip and vaccinate my puppy while he was being neutered. I also asked them to recheck his skin to see if his mites were gone since he'd finished he'd treatment. I went to pick him up later that day. They bring him out and he's drooling heavily and still very sedated. Clearly they had not allowed enough time for him to recover from anesthesia before sending him home. I've had over 10 dogs spayed/neutered, and I've never had a vet send them home like this. Then I asked for the shot records and microchip paperwork. Turns out they hadn't done it. They also hadn't done the skin re-check either, and guess what? The mites weren't gone... On his Pre-Surgery Health Exam Sheet, she checked the "Normal" box for his heart. At the previous exam she said he had a murmur. But she didn't check the "Murmur" box, which makes me think she didn't actually do the exam, but just checked everything normal. Don't trust her at all and won't go back.

RESPONSES TO NEGATIVE COMMENTS

1ST - "Terrible Staff" NOT!. I consider your comments to be self centered. You obviously felt that this staff had nothing better to do than wait on you. I would probably be willing to bet that you refused to pay your bill when all was done. I know this, once in a while they do have someone new working and they don't know all the answers. But I can assure you that I have never had an animal mistreated there. I can probably be a better judge than you because I normally spend between one and two thousand dollars a year there for the care of my show dogs.

I love them!

I have brought all my animals to Dr. Leese. Including a stray cat that I found freezing outside, a rabbit, 4 dogs, and they have been so kind to them and to myself and my family. We had a puppy die of parvo that I got from a breeder and they tried so hard to save him, but when the time came to let me know..it wasn't going to be possible, Dr. Leese was very understanding and compassionate as we put him down and when we had to put down our 14 year old Shepard/Chow, they gave us all the time we needed to say good bye and never once rushed us or anything. My animals love going there because they aren't scared like when I have taken them to other places when I had moved away. Now that I'm back, I'm so happy to say they are in good hands once again.

Terrible service, terrible staff, do not go here!!

We have a sick puppy that has had to have been hospitalized twice in the last year and have been taking her to Mountain Empire since September 2008. Although they seemed great at first things quickly changed. Everytime we would speak to their staff we would get told something completely different than the last person we spoke with. It became a battle just to get a straight answer. The office staff is very inconsistent and they are extremely unknowledgeable. It seems that the doctor just hired girls off the street with no experience. I would get relayed the wrong message from Dr. Leese and when I would leave a message for her, Dr. Leese was always given the wrong message. Although Dr. Leese seems like a very good vet, dealing with her staff is EXTREMELY difficult. It is nothing but one huge headache and what's even worse is that Dr. Leese doesn't care. If you bring any of your concerns to her she takes her staff's side. That's good to a degree but when they are so difficult, inconsisten

Poor Service

I call them because I believed my dogs had worms, I told them I didn't know what kind of worms but they could been seen in the feces. I was told they didn't need to see my dogs, I just needed to bring in a fecal sample to be tested, so I did. When I took the sample in I told them worms could been seen in it. After testing the sample they told me my dogs didn't have worms. The next day I took my dogs and a fecal sample in to another vet. My dogs do have worms, tape worms. I called Mountain Empire back regarding and asked for a refund since their test was inaccurate. They told me they didn't test for tape worms, they did a flotation tested which is for round worms eggs and would not give me a refund. I believe this information would have been useful when I took the sample in. How was I to know they did not test for all worms??????

THE BEST VET IN SPOKANE!!!

This is by far in my opinion the best vet in spokane. They truly care and are there for the animals. I have 2 dogs and a cat that go there and recieve excellent care. I do not hesitate once to recommend them to friends and family. They take great care of the animals they have in their charge and are very compasionate if you have to end up putting an animal down as I have had that expierence once, very sadly. In regards to the other reviewers comments that it smelled in there and was dirty, that could be farther from the truth. I have been a loyal customer/patient of theirs for over 10 yrs and have NEVER went in their when it smelled or was dirty, and I am very sensitive to smells due to allergies. It has always been clean and well taken care of. I love their Office Cat!!! Take your animals here if you treat them like their a member of your family because they will do the same there too!!!

The entire building smells !!

They do like the pets here; but it stinks so badly of urine that I can't stand to be there. You do need to bathe your pet if he stays there. they don't have any room for the dogs to play outside. Our dog was bitten by another dog, very disappointing service, very dirty place. Don't go there !!

Excellent Service and Affordable!

I bring my little dog and my cat to both Mountain Empire Veterianary Services and their next door boarding, grooming, adoption and Self-Service Dog Wash - Julia's Jungle. I have received consistently good and caring veterinary services for my dog and cat and I just boarded my dog for a week and had her bathed and groomed and it was a delight to come home to a sweet smelling, pretty and happy little puppy upon my return. The entire staff is so pleasant and you can just tell they love animals! I highly recommend Mountain Empire Veterinary Services!
