The Mining Camp Restaurant opened its doors to the public in 1961. It is built of rough sawn Ponderosa Pine hauled from Payson, Arizona. Today it still follows the theme of the early mining camp cook Shanty.

Cook shanties and good food are synonymous, as the old-time miner can tell you. A replica of the old mining camp cook shanty sits today at the base of the mysterious Superstition Mountains, along the romantic Apache Trail. The Mining Camp Restaurant has an interior that copies that of the old shanty with amazing authenticity and the good food is there, too, in plentiful quantities.

The exterior of the restaurant is a rough hewn Ponderosa Pine structure and is surrounded by buildings representing a prospector’s camp. One addition to the Mining Camp Restaurant is the Trading Post with its authentic Indian relics, legendary maps, and photos of the early mining days in the mysterious superstitions.

As was the case in the old camps, the Mining Camp Restaurant serves “all you can eat” family style dinners, from heaping platters of golden brown roast chicken, big juicy slices of oven baked ham, and world-famous barbeque ribs. You can have delightfully prepared choice char-broiled steaks. Coleslaw is served family style in big bowls along with oven-hot baked beans. There are sourdough rolls and homemade raisin bread, baked in the cook’s shanty. The coffee comes to the table in large coffee pots on a help-yourself basis, and the meal is complete with the old Mining Camp prospector cookies.

In addition to its famous “all you can eat,” the Mining Camp Restaurant will now offer table and booth seating in the new “Dutchman’s Hide Out” which features rustic wood planked walls and brushed copper tabletops in cozy booths.

Diners will be able to choose from a menu specializing in mesquite grilled Angus prime rib of beef, steaks and seafood along with beer and wine.
