Self-funding simply means that an employer and the employees can share in funding an account from which dental benefits are reimbursed. The employer can also choose to fully fund the account or have the employees fund virtually all of it.
Here's how it works: An employee or family member visits the dentist and receives dental care. The claim is submitted to your plan administrator (like MDB), usually by the dentist. The plan administrator (MDB) processes the claim, determines the plan and patient responsibility and writes a check from the plan fund you have set up.
