I have experienced the same as lady above, single parent lost a job, Here. not able to get any help from this agency , I even contacted a local town to get help with my rent or other resources, she said to call the Agency I then told her I tried the number that she referred me to - then tried herself from their referral, when she called me back she said she was very concerned on how the Receptionist responded to her & really did`nt seem to know anything , nor like she really cared what I was trying to do for another client.

Community Action in Salem

by tiredofbeingtreatedbadly , 11/21/2009

We were referred by Community Action to ARCHES and to apply for Marion County Tenant-Based Assistance when my husband was injured and we could not pay our rent. Our family was at risk of being homeless as you can see is one of their qualifications. When we attempted to apply for assistance, we were told two different things. 1) We were not citizens of Salem so they could not help us. (We lived in Marion County - just not Salem) And 2) We were not homeless nor did we have a conviction. These agencies are liars. They do not do as they advertise. They shouldn't be allowed to have the federal monies they get.
