The Merlin 200,000 Mile Shop in Bolingbrook, IL replaced the struts on my Toyota Camry. I paid the bill and started to drive away but did not leave their parking lot before I detected something was seriously wrong with my car. It rattled as if one had a half- dozen bolts in a wooden box and shook it. I immediately parked and went back into the shop to report this to the service manager. I took it for a cruise around adjacent shopping center parking lot with the mechanic that had done the "repair." It turns out that the mechanic did not know that when struts are replaced, the final tightening of the strut bolts has to be done once the weight of the chassis is resting on the vehicle's frame. The bolts were tightened and I went on my way. About a month later, I hit a large pot hole, damaging the front right strut. Still under warranty, I took the car back to Merlin's and had it replaced (once again paying the full price for the labor to install it. Once again, the mechanic doing the work on my vehicle did not know how to properly install the strut as it rattled like the former installation. I told the mechanic what must be done to eliminate the rattle, they pulled it back into the shop and tightened the bolt. After that experience I decided to find another garage, one that had qualified and knowledgeable mechanics to service my cars. Shortly thereafter, the right front strut developed a "creaking" sound. The garage that I was now using diagnosed the problem as the right front strut. The garage noticing that the strut was new would be happy to repair it but suggested I might save some money by returning it to the place that installed it so they could fix the improper installation. The Merlin's service manager denied that the strut had any issues and told me maybe I should get a third opinion. I took it to another garage and they too told me it was a problem with that strut. In the mean time I received a hand-written postcard in the mail from the franchise owner of that shop stating "We sincerely appreciate your business. We look forward to seeing you again soon..." My assumption was that this meant they were going to do the right thing and perform the needed maintenance at no additional charge. I scheduled to have the strut repair done, only to find out via telephone that they were going to charge me an additional $383 in labor to bring the shoddy workmanship up to par. I told them that I would be in to pick up my car - which I did. MERLIN 200,000 MILE SHOP IN BOLINGBROOK WILL NEVER SEE ANOTHER DOLLAR FROM THIS DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER.

service

I've gone to this shop several times for scheduled maintenance and one time because of issues with my radiator. The staff is friendly and professional. They did a great job of explaining the problem with my car, and the steps that they would use to fix it.

Good customer service

I was happy with my recent experience with these guys. The person at the front desk did a good job of explaining to me what the problem with my a/c was & gave a very reasonable quote to fix it. He even allowed me to speak directly with the technician who would do the repair. These guys are very professional and so far I am very happy, I have a working A/C again & for less than what I was quoted elsewhere. Bravo!!!
