Terrible service, Trespassing and damage to property

We had issues where they took the extra can I put out to be dumped and they tossed the entire can in the truck and crushed it. We received a credit for that and then received a bill that stated we owed $26 dollars. We travel a lot so we don't always have our can at the street sometimes for weeks on end. We have mentioned this multiple times as we don't think it's right to be billed for a service if you are not using it. Well anyway they decided to not notify us and they came on our property went all the way into my backyard and took our can for the non payment of $26. With my van in the driveway and the house it's to narrow to move the can because it will scratch the van. Well when I went out and asked why they were on my property I went and looked at my van and it had a giant scratch all the way down the side. When I called I was treated as if I was lying. I then did not receive a call for over a week. When I did get a call they left a very rude message and said they were bringing police to my house and just decided they would set a date without asking if that day even worked for our schedule. I notified our insurance and let them take care of it. When I called today to tell them this I again was talked to as if I was lying and they started telling me they got lawyers notified. Beware of this service they treat you terribly. They didn't notify of a final notice or that they would be taking our can. Trespassing and vehicle damage all over $26 dollar non payment. The scratch was down the entire side of the van.

Very happy with Mel's service

I've had Mel's service for over six years now and am very pleased with their service. Billing has been like clockwork, and I pay them electronically. They've given me a sturdy toter which is more than enough for my needs, and have been completely reliable. I like the fact that they tip the toter into the truck, thus emptying it every time. My previous hauler would just reach in and grab the bags, leaving smaller trash items behind. I also appreciate their help the time I was going on vacation and wouldn't be home to move my toter to the curb and back on pickup day, when it needed to be emptied badly. I called and offered to pay an extra fee for them to come up the driveway to fetch it and return it there, but they did it as a courtesy. Thank you Mel's!

No service in my area?

I was thinking about changing trash haulers. I called Mels as everyone on my street now uses them. I was told they could not pick my address up due to some agreement with Urbana. I explained to her that my neighbors on the north and south use your service.She said there was nothing she could do.WHAT?

Poor Service and Outdated

Poor service, not up to date with billing options, multiple billing errors - state had not received payments despite bank records indicating the checks had been cashed, When Illini shifted territory we were "auto- assigned" Mel's. It is too bad we cant have Illini back. With the most recent error where they stopped service due to their own poor accounting processes they will be getting replaced by another carrier and one that is locally based and not towards Southern IL.

Meg H in Urbana - Very Happy with the service and support staff in the office

Excellent pick up service. I would prefer to have my monthly amount debited electronically but receive excellent service when I call and pay by phone. Heather (in the office) is great.

Pick up service is bad, they never answer their phones, you're lucky if you get to leave a message.

Bad service, they never answer phones, and you're lucky if you get to leave a message. I pay my bill everytime, ontime, my neighbors don't, I place all garbage and trash in the canister, my neighbors don't, and I get passed up for pick up even though one would have to be blind to miss it.

Missing Trash Cans

I was also disappointed when Mel's bought out our former collector. Since the switch, we have had several good trash cans disappear on trash day. I haven't seen our missing cans anywhere around the neighborhood, so logic points to Mel's. I am now searching for a new collector.

WOW!

Mel's Disposal bought out our former garbage Collector which turned out to be a sad day. Mel's Office Manager chose to get into an argument with me over the use of their Toter can and then told me they were no longer going to pick up my garbage and hung up the phone, I'm thinking it would be most helpful if she took a course in Customer Service 101? I now have a Garbage Collector that works out of a physical address as opposed to the P.O. Box that Mel's operates out of!
