I've been taking my dog to this kennel for over 4 years. And he LOVES it there. I have driven by and seen him out side playing (This was before they had daycare). And they never know what time I will be showing up to get him...I have to leave him there for 2 weeks at a time, three times a year and he is always happy and healthy when I come back. He is a high energy dog and if he was cooped up for two weeks, he would be whacked out. I also leave him for shorter periods of time through out the year. I love my dog and would not take him here if there was any chance of cruelty, mistreatment or neglect! I"m glad I was lucky enough to find a really good kennel close to where I live. I highly recommend this kennel.

I'm a bit distressed to see the two bad reviews of McKenna Kennels, as my experience over the last 5 years has been nothing but excellent. I've been boarding my dog, a Springer Spaniel, at McKenna Kennels for the last 5 years. He is always excited to go there and likes the people who care for him. From my observations, the kennels are always clean, there is plenty of fresh clean water available at all times and his feeding schedule matches what he has at home. It is true that he doesn't get to roam the large field that can be seen from the road. That is used for bird dog training. The exercise/play yard is near the kennels, has plenty of sun and shade and fresh water. I have driven past the kennel when I got home early and have seen my dog, and others, in the play yard with a staff member having a great time. Just to be sure, I haven't been promised anything, nor do I expect anything for this review. I just hate to see a good business and people I trust with my best friends health and welfare get a bad reputation.

Caution: McKenna Kennels advertises discounted boarding fees in exchange for a positive business review, so I would take the positive reviews on this site with a huge grain of salt. First you see beautiful and manicured fenced areas when you drive in that you think your dog will be playing in, but I have yet to see ANY dog out of the kennel or being exercised for that matter. Dogs are let into an "exercise kennel" while their space is being cleaned, but that is it. We've boarded there a few times, there is only ever one employee for 30 + dogs. They don't exercise your dog at all, unless you ask for it and then they charge you but there's no guarantee - how would you know? Dog are not allowed to roam in the fenced fields, and are kept cooped up in their kennel spaces 23.5 hours a day. They advertise that they will "pamper" your dog, but in reality it's just cooped up. It's very affordable and they give a military discount, but your dog will be alone all day.

It is sad to see that the internet makes it so easy for people to say false things about an honest business. We pride ourselves on the care we provide to each and everyone of our guests. And, to set the record straight, we have 7 employees, all of our guests get out daily and we DO NOT pay anyone to write reviews. I encourage JaneDoe76 to please come forward and talk to the management about your concerns, we would be glad to take you through the daily routine here at McKenna Kennels Pet Resort and hope that you decide to leave your furry family member with us again. I have been bringing my dog and cat to McKenna Kennels for years and I have nothing but good things to say. Their service and attention to my pets' needs are above and beyond my expectations! My dog is always out in one of their large yards running around when I come to pick him up and my cat is usually the 'office cat' when she stays there, which is a nice treat to be greeted by your own pet. Trust me, you won't find a better place!

With how both myself and my pets (2 dogs, 1 cat) have been treated at McKenna Kennels the several times I have had to board them over the last few years, I know I will never consider taking them anywhere else. I always get the feeling that the staff there understands how hard it is for me to leave them when I have to, but when I pick them up they have always obviously been well-cared for.

This is a wonderful and safe place to leave your dogs and/or cats when you go out of town. I have been leaving my "kids" there for the past six years and they always come home cleaner and smelling better than when I dropped them off. The staff is warm and caring, they let my pups room together. They feed and exercise my dogs for a very reasonable cost. Thank you McKenna Kennels for giving me peace of mind when I can't take my dogs out of town with me!

My dogs are not just a part of my family, they are largely how I spend my time and money at field trials and so are much more than beloved pets, although I have those, too. My dogs only train and board at McKenna Kennels, have done so for 18 years, and I'm hard put to understand why anyone would do otherwise.

I have two labs and they have a big enough kennel for them to stay together. The kennels are cleaned everyday and the water is always freshened. The staff takes notes on specifics related to your canine friend and will take special care if requested. I am allowed to bring their beds so they can snuggle together in their kennel. Last time the "girls" stayed with McKenna Kennels, they came home smelling super clean because they were treated to baths. Overall the price versus amenities are very good. I would use them in the future.

Do not give this kennel busine...

Do not give this kennel business. I read reviews prior to going there and the abuse is still on-going. The reviews were dated, so I gave the owners the benefit of the doubt that they had made improvements. They have not. I visited on a weekend afternoon. There was one employee - a teenager. She kept complaining how behind in work she was because she had to 'do it all': give walk throughs to potential clients (she was with one when I got there), check in and out boarders, clean and feed boarders, answer phones, do general office work. When I went in to the kennel area, the dogs were barking (all 30 or so). No surprise - it's a kennel! The employee screamed at the dogs to shut up, kicked the kennel doors and lunged at the dogs in a threatening way. From my perspective, she was out of line. Prior to looking at the kennels, I had asked about daily exercise and she got a look on her face that I read as :"We'll tell you that we exercised your dog and charge you for it, but it's not guaranteed to happen. Depends on how busy we are." The focus of the business doesn't appear to be on the animals. I won't board my dog there and I won't recommend the facility. The potential for abuse is too great.

    Poor treatment of animals

They charge you for exercising your dog and then don't do it. The kennels were in horrid conditions when I dropped my dog off.
