How To become a Dental Assistant
We can train you in 13 weeks with 78 hours of lecture and lab. (Our evening and weekend schedules will allow you to maintain your work, school or family commitments.) You will then complete a 50 hour dental assistant internship with a practicing dentist, and complete testing and application requirements to obtain your New Mexico Certification in the Expanded Function of Dental Radiography. After you graduate you'll have the skills to get a job as a Dental Assistant. After some experience, graduates become office managers, Dental Assistant Instructors, dental product sales representatives, and even move on to Dental Hygiene, which is highly competitive. Cherri Carolus is a working Dental Assistant with 16 years of experience. She received her Dental Assistant' Certificate from the Pima Medical Institute in Albuquerque in 1995. She has since worked for several Dentists specializing in disciplines including general, pediatric, endodontic dentistry, and a dentist who developed his own line of dental implants. She currently works managing the dental restorative department during military preparedness events. For these events she sets up a complete dental office for up to 20 Dentists who see up to 1000 patients, performing over 500 procedures over a three day period.
