My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Jesus prayed to his heavenly Father in these words on behalf of his disciples, “I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me”. (Jn 17:22-23) Jesus was also praying for Mary, Queen of Peace parish with these words! Let us turn to Jesus Christ, so that through his grace we may become ever more unified as a parish family.

“I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one…I in them and you in me”. The cause of our unity is Jesus Christ sharing the very glory of God with us! This is done primarily when he enters into us through our reception of the Holy Eucharist, “I in them”. What a great honor for us to be vessels of the love, truth and glory of God. When you peruse this directory never forget that you are beholding the faces of those whom Christ has entered into through Word and Sacrament.

“As we are one”, God defines unity. Jesus is lovingly unified to the Father and this was seen by his eagerness to be in communion with God through prayer. As a parish family we are honored to be able to bask in the love that the Persons of the Trinity have for one another. As we worship together, let us take great comfort in the wise saying, “a family that prays together stays together”.

“That they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me”. The world desperately needs an example of authentic love and unity. We need to show the world that we know our savior personally, that he loves us, that we are united to the will of God and that we are united to one another. This is the perfection that Christ wants for us. We are also blessed to have the next greatest human example of unity be our parish’s namesake, Mary, Queen of Peace. Mary knew that God loved her and she lovingly united herself to the will of God. As a result, she assented to God’s request that she become the mother of God.

Someday soon we will be more unified as a parish in at least an external way by virtue of a new Church, Hall and Education Center. Let us never forget that true unity starts with Christ. We must each love him strongly and unreservedly. Next, we must put ourselves at the disposal of God’s will. Finally, we must realize the great love Christ has for our neighbors. We are not alone in enjoying the favor of God. May we love one another as God loves us.
