Buyer Beware / Dishonest Business

I regret using Marksmen.
I contracted this outfit to remove my oil tank. I received few quotes from various companies and decided to go with Marksmen because they were the cheapest. They come on site and said they will need to dig the tank by hand since I had gas lines near by and paver stone walkway on the other side of the tank. I agreed to the approach and sent them a deposit. On the date of the removal they came onsite at 8:30 am. They were quickly removed and destroyed my Japanese Maple worth $2,000 and removed several pavers stones from the walkway. They completely lied about how they were going to take care of this job. They used a Backhoes to remove the Japanese Maple instead of digging it out by hand as promised. Lesson learned is if you go with these guys, you need to get everything in writing. I also learned from the town that I'm not supposed to pay these guys other then the deposit. Payment is made after the permit is satisfied with the town. Marksmen had pay a deposit of 50% and on the day of the removal before they got started, they had me pay 30% of the remaining balance. Once I received the bill I saw extra charges that amounted to 800 as the remaining balance. The other quotes did include many of these charges now that see what transpired. Marksmen does this as part of there core business functions and should be more transparent with customers based on experience. Like most oil tanks require the Vac truck to clean out sludge. They give 30 gallons included in the price. What they fail to disclose is most like you'll have in the excess of 100 gallons. The big ticket item was the Vac Truck fee of 420 on top of the sludge removal. They never disclosed that fee in the quote. The other vendors provided a more comprehensive approach. I didn't realize that there would be significant additional fees with Marksmen compared to the others folks. I would recommend going with a firm that provides a comprehensive removal process that includes many of these hidden items. Do not go with the lowest cost firm as they will not include all of these items and thus tricking customers into get the work based on the low introductory fee. They will then increase the price based on the circumstances that will have and they are free from guilt because it's the circumstance that you have. I have filled a complaint with the better business bureau BBB.org due to the destruction and repair cost that I had to cover. They ruined my lawn and they removed my paver stones which had to be reset. I had to get topsoil delivered too. My lawn service had to fix the lawn. Don't trust the image on their website where it shows that they play down large boards for the backhoe. That was false advertising. I do not recommend these guys and honestly would advise you to go with other quotes.
They made no effort to make it right.
