The 120 private-room hospital, located on a 60 acre wooded campus, was founded in 1972 by the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters and is the only facility of its kind in the nation.

The 170,000 square foot facility has an array of unique features.

• Patient rooms are designed to accommodate patients and their families with a high degree of comfort and privacy, while offering beautiful views of the 60 acre wooded campus.

• When possible, patients are grouped into areas of the hospital with emphasis on specific rehabilitation treatment modes such as spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, orthopedic and pediatric care.

• An enabling garden gives patients an opportunity to experience the healing effect of interacting with nature.

• The labyrinth allows those who walk or wheel its path to pray, reflect, and meditate and is open to the public daily (weather permitting) from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

• Patients can also relax and reflect in the hospital’s soundproof meditation room or in the two-story chapel that features vertical stained glass windows.

• A cafeteria offers families and friends breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday and an abbreviated meal menu on weekends.

• Free WIFI is available throughout the facility.

• Free cover parking is also available for the convenience of visitors.

Marianjoy’s inpatient programs and services include treatment for the following:

• Strokes - addresses issues related to strokes including weakness or paralysis, impaired balance or coordination, speech and language difficulties, cognitive problems with memory, thinking and attention, impaired bowel or bladder control, difficulty swallowing, depression, difficulties with daily tasks;

• Brain injuries - typically treats patients with issues resulting from trauma, cerebral hemorrhage, infection, tumors, oxygen deprivation;

• Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal issues - typically treats patients with joint replacements, orthopedic trauma such as a fracture, arthritis, amputation, sports injury or diseases affecting the bones and muscles;

• Spinal cord injuries - treats patients with injuries resulting from trauma, infection, tumors, and stroke;

* Neuromuscular issues - treats patients with Guillain Barre’, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, burns;
