Lincolnshire and the Grove Montessori schools follow the Montessori Method and philosophy of education. We are firmly committed to Maria Montessori's approach to learning in our overall program. The Montessori Method strives to arouse the child's interest, to stimulate and to provide an individualized learning atmosphere. This is the "prepared environment" which invites a child to get themselves involved and put their mind in gear. We offer different areas of interest to introduce to your child.
Established in 1979 and with over 30 years of combined experience, Lincolnshire
Montessori School (LMS) and The Grove Montessori School (TGMS) have built a peaceful
community of children and adults. As one of the most esteemed schools in the area, we
have fostered respect while harvesting an environment which gives the opportunity to
explore possibilities and develop the skills children need.
Lincolnshire and The Grove Montessori Schools aim to meet the academic, social,
emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs of young children two to six years of age in a
well prepared, enriching environment.

Independence, self discipline, problem-solving and the development of early academic
skills are nurtured in a beautiful, calm and loving environment. A community of
peacemakers is built by showing and teaching respect to one another. Our schools foster a
community of adults and children working together with the principle aim of helping
children develop to their own full personal potential.
Family and parent participation are encouraged in an open-door observation policy and in
organized events.
Lincolnshire and The Grove Montessori School are certified by the American Montessori
Society (AMS), are members of the Association of Illinois Montessori Schools (AIMS) and
registered with the Illinois Board of Education.
In the Montessori classroom, the space is divided into several logical
areas by low open shelves: practical life, sensorial, language, math, art,
music, geography and science. The Montessori Curriculum is an
integrated thematic approach that ties the separate disciplines together
into studies of the physical universe, the world of nature, and the human
experience. In this way, one lesson leads to many others. Each material
isolates one concept or skill that has been specially designed in a way that
children are naturally drawn to want to work with it with little or no nudging
from adults. Each material has been also designed so that a child can
normally check his own work; we call this a built-in “control of error.”
The intention of the materials is not to keep the children dependent on
these artificial learning aids forever; they are used as tools to help children
work and learn at their own pace and to see abstract ideas presented in a
very concrete, three-dimensional way while helping them grasp and
understand what they are working on.
