Legal Nurse Consultants is an independent medical-legal consulting agency in Johnson City, Tennessee, serving many areas of the Southeast.Our services are rendered to attorneys and insurance companies for medical-related cases. We screen charts for merit, prepare reports, graphs, charts, chronologies, etc. We aid with discovery, prepare demonstrative evidence, research, chronologies, and much more. We detect chart tampering, attend IME’s (Independent Medical Exams) and help attorneys with any questions that they may have relating to the medical aspects of the case. We suggest persons for depositions if the attorney hasn't considered them, and help with deposition questions. We determine whether the standards of care were followed, and ascertain whether policies and procedures were up to date and followed. We will do as much as the attorney wishes . After we review the chart for merit, we offer our suggestions to the attorney. If he/she takes the case, we start preparing our reports, timelines, statements, and whatever needs to be done.We go all the way to trial with the attorney if he/she so chooses. Attorneys realize we are a very important part of any litigation team. The medical records are studied, scrutinized, and checked for all portions. After we become initially certified, we maintain certification by attending annual conferences, webinars, updates, seminars, reading, participating in our professional organizations, and practicing. We also have listservs where we can ask a colleague anywhere in the nation a question if there is something of which we are unsure. We have many contacts and resources to make the attorney's job of having a positive outcome for his/her client easier, more cost-effective, less stressful, and more timely. We handle all the medical aspects of the case, thus freeing the attorney to handle the legal aspects. This helps the case move along more swiftly, to everyones satisfaction. We aid insurance companies basically the same way. If someone files a suit from a vehicular accident, they seek out an attorney. We attend Independent Medical Exams and prepare reports from these. We also aid insurance agencies by determining if certain procedures were really necessary, or if a less expensive procedure would have given the same results. We are able to multi-task several cases at a time, therefore helping many people. We're still nurses; we use our knowledge and varied experence to aid the legal community, helping justice prevail.
