A. Consultations-
Upon notification of a health concern, whether it is an injury, pain complaint, preventative concerns, or post-injury rehabilitation, an initial consultation with the Clinical Nurse Specialist will be set up. The consultations consist of two parts that include:
1. Detailed history of client problem
2. Full MSK assessment
3. Video analysis of dance technique
4. Recommendations for treatment
(Including referrals to a physician, physical therapist or other health care providers.)
Follow-up Consultations
1. Focused physical assessment
2. Focused dance technique assessment
3. Evaluation of treatments
4. Recommendations
B. Rehabilitation-
Dance Therapy
Frequently, performing artists develop pain or discomfort in specific body areas that are not directly related to an injury but may be related to loss of correct dance technique &/or overuse. This program focuses on rehabilitation of the area of pain or discomfort through use of common physical therapy techniques, combined with retraining of correct dance techniques.
Post-injury
After an injury, the dancer loses the sense of "self" in the affected area which causes anxiety and frustration.
Working on a "one on one" basis, this dance-based class will focus on the area of injury and other affected areas to increase strength and re-train proprioception while still being able to dance.
Education-
Our Education Department consist of three areas to better meet the needs of the performing artist.
1.) Post Injury/Dance Therapy Education
After the initial health problem has been resolved through Dance Therapy, the client is transferred to our Dance Education Department, where techniques learned in Dance therapy are directly applied to the client's dance technique or movements to decrease the chances of re-injury when the client returns to regular classes or performances.
2.) Focused Technique Education
These private/semi private sessions are designed to focus on specific needs of dancers & other performing artists. These areas include how to safely obtain or increase; turnout, stretch, leg extensions, balance, core strength & control, turning abilities, & height of jumps.
3.) Out Reach Health Education
Designed for health promotion & injury prevention, these presentations, lectures & work shops can be provided to dance students, professional dancers, dance teachers, parents, and others who may have an interest in dance health
