I want to warn any professional RN that this is not a safe practice/safe patient care facility !
by Runnin Fast RN , 08/11/2012
I came to help, make changes to improve patient care. I was met with negativity, hostility, resentment from staff in leadership role and told "you're at Kindred now" "You just need to do it the Kindred way" well the Kindred way Sucks! Needless to say I only stayed a short time and then resigned running back to Normal, Safe, Good patient care with management and leadership that really does put patient care #1, where patients care IS the priority - This is NOT the Kindred way -- Do not go there to work if you are a high caliber RN that cares about patient care !!
Awful place to have a loved one

My sister wasn't being watched carefully, her feeding tube wasn't even in her stomach and we kept complaining that the fluid was draining out and and we were told that it was normal then we were told that the doctors would take a look at it.......only until 4 days later the doctors the doctors fixed it. Luckily we didn't lose her. This place is a Malpractice Lawsuit is waiting to happen.

and I was happier with the service at Kindred than I was at Select! We did not get fantastic service but it was better, at least the staff spoke English, though we did have to ride them and it probably helped that her Dr was high up in the food chain and I was close to his boss at another hospital.Unfortunately the only other critical care facility that cares for respiratory patients in Phoenix is just as bad if not worse! Is there any regulatory body in Az for these places??
WELL, IT DOES NOT MATTER NOW!

Father at Kindred Hospital

I will keep this review short and to the point:They do not clean up after a patient has an accident. This is regardless whether it's urine or feces. They seldomly pick up phone and transfer to patients room. If they DO pick up phone, they will fumble the transfer enough times that you never get through. My mother, family and I do not feel comfortable with him there. Unfortunately that is the only extended care facility that conducts Peritoneal Dialysis with minimal Physical and Occupational Rehab.Note - My mother drives up everyday to clean, feed, monitor and manage him as the staff at Kindred does not do that.Think twice before sending your loved one there.

My mom was in Kindred Phx in 1/09. Her treatment there was inexcusable. She was not mobile due to extreme back pain, could not chew food very well and was prone to choking. We asked the staff numerous time to serve her food cut up or at least soft so she could eat on her own. Our requests were ignored and there were times she said she was starving. When staff returned her to her room after dialysis they would forget to put her call button and phone within her reach. She constantly asked for applesauce to help her swallow her meds and the staff would ignore her requests and refuse to help - they told me she was being demanding! The place was dirty. I visited for a week and not once was the floor mopped. I asked the staff to put medicine on her bedsore and they said they were, yet when I checked on the shelf it hadn't been moved. Even while I was sitting there the staff would get frustrated with her because she couldn't understand their accents. They didn't take time to explain

MY FATHER WAS IN KINDRED FOR TWO WEEKS BEFORE HE PASSED AWAY. THE NIGHT HE WAS TRANSFERED THERE AND.. PUT IN ICU HE WAS STRAPPED DOWN WHERE HE COULD NOT REACH HIS CALL BUTTON. IT TOOK 4 TIMES ASKING PEOPLE WHO WORKED IN THE ICU UNIT TO FIND HIS NURSE. THE MORNING AFTER, I WENT TO SEE HIM, HE WAS STILL TIED DOWN,CALL BUTTON WAS OUT OF HIS REACH AND HE WAY LAYING IN HIS OWEN FECES. THE STAFF APOLOGIZED. WE TRIED TO GET HIM TRANSFERED OUT OF THERE, BUT THEY SAID THAT HE WAS UNSTABLE TO MOVE.EVEN WHEN HE GOT STABLE THEY WOULD NOT LISTEN TO THE FAMILY ABOUT MOVING HIM BACK TO THE HOSPITAL. EVERY NURSE AND DOCTOR GAVE US DIFFERENT INFORMATION. IT SEEMED LIKE NO ONE KNEW WHAT THE OTHER WAS DOING.WE HAD SOMEONE UP THERE WITH HIM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, BECAUSE IT SEEMED LIKE THEY WOULD JUST SIT BEHIND THE DESK AND LOOK AT THEIR MONITOR INSTEAD OF TAKING THE FEW EXTRA STEPS TO LOOK IN ON HIM. THE ICU SMELLED OF FECES AND URN.WE WERE TOLD WHEN HE GOT THAT HE WAS IMPROVING AND READY TO START ON SOME
