Great family owned business. I’ve never not been greeted with a smile and hello. Service and selection is top notch. It’s obvious all of these negative feedbacks are linked by some bitter person trying to bash a great place to shop and get in range time.

Owners, family employees and most of the staff are not very welcoming nor friendly -- ie, customer service is non-existent. The only friendly and helpful staff sales rep is no longer working there. Owner./gunsmith lacks any sense of customer service and ethical behavior for the products sold and (un)supported. Range is okay, but range master also needs lesson on customer service and attitude. Avoid this place, especially since RKA Guns is not that far and operates at the complete other end of the spectrum.

Okay guys. I have not bought a weapon from this dealer....YET! But my daughter took me to this range TODAY to shoot our weapons and I had the BEST experience of most ranges I've been to. Upon entering the store, SURE, the staff give you the once over. Hell, I would too until I know who you are and what you're here for. Hey they have customers entering their store carrying guns. I wouldn't be lovee dovee either. But once we were finished in the range EVERY sales person took their time to talk and smile with my daughter and me. Thanks Glenn and happy anniversary. So I can't account for most peoples bad experience with these guys but our time spent in JR's.....we'll do it again and take my son and wife.

Very unfriendly owner and staff.

The store is O.K. but the owner and employees can be downright unfriendly. I've used the range four or five times because it's the closest range and I would have to drive pretty far to get to another range. However, because of the unfriendliness of the owner at J&R, I never even think of making purchases at the store. They don't seem to understand that if they treat people nicely when they use the range, they are likely to get customers in the store. If I go to a range and I'm treated nicely by friendly staff, I'm very likely to buy firearms, ammo and accessories. The range can almost be a loss-leader when operated properly. The range fees are high but that's normal for this area but you have to buy $20 worth of ammo per person to shoot as long as you want. I can accept that. But it's the unfriendliness of the owner that makes going to this store a bad experience often. On one occasion, I was asked what kind of ammo I had and informed that no foreign-made ammo was allowed. The reason they gave for that rule made no sense. I didn't have any foreign ammo and told them so but they still emptied out my ammo box and searched it which was insulting. Yesterday, I took another shooter to J&R and also a new shooter to help him prepare for his Illinois concealed carry qualification. We got to J&R just as it was opening and the guy (I believe the owner) opened the door, gave us an unfriendly look when I said, "Hi" and just turned around and let the door slam in my face. This attitude continued while we checked in to shoot. He was unfriendly and totally humorless. You can almost get the feeling at J&R that the owner doesn't like customers. Unfortunately, my new shooter friend had a bad experience for the first time at a range and I don't think they are as excited about shooting after this happened. When we checked out, the owner's attitude had changed. It was really odd. Suddenly he was almost friendly. I almost got the feeling that he has some kind of a mood disorder. The first time I shot at J&R, I had the range to myself and they never turned the ventilation on. I was dripping with sweat within minutes. When I mentioned it to the owner, he complained about the cost of heap filters! I have talked to several other shooters who were treated badly at J&R and they won't go back. I also mentioned J&R to an employee of another store/range in Plainfield and he said that he used to work for J&R but quit because of the bad attitude of the owner and how they treated customers there. I'll probably go to J&R to shoot again but only because of it's proximity to my house but I can almost expect being treated poorly. The owner of J&R needs to realize that his customers are not his enemies. His attitude appears to rub off on his employees.

If I told my best friend about...

If I told my best friend about this place, I'd say: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I have told everyone that listens that this place does not want your business. I told the owner I was retired now and I am taking up target shooting again. I said I would probably buy a few weapons from him. The second weapon I bought had a problem, and to make a long story short, he told me it was now my property and tough luck you get it fixed! So I sent it back to the manufacture, they 'fixed it' and said 'it is now a straight shooting gun'. I drove to Mega Sports in Plainfield to shoot my newly fixed gun set the target at 15 ft. and missed the first two shots. The third shot ricocheted off the steel bar then off the wall and hit me in the left temple. So now I have a piece of sh1t gun in my drawer from jr sports as a reminder. It's better to drive to Plainfield to shoot in a a/c range than go to my local store to buy crap that wants to kill me.

Gunsmith damaged my rear pisto...

Gunsmith damaged my rear pistol sight and did not tell me. I found the gouge in the left side of mf my $1000.00 pistol when I took it out of the box we I returned home.

Pay close attention to anything you have in gunsmithing when you get it back. Please look it over for scratches and gouges. He/She kew what they did and they did not tell me.

Gunsmiths are supposed to improve your firearm not hide damage.

Buy Elsewhere!!!

I paid for a gun in full in March of 2008. They didn't have it in stock so they were going to order it for me. It is now a couple days from June of 2009 and I still do not have the gun I already paid for!!! They have given me every excuse in the book, and each employee has a different story on why the gun still hasn't come in, if they respond at all. I will NEVER be purchasing a gun from J R Shooting Sports again!
