Hospice of the Red River Valley provides compassionate end-of-life care and support to patients struggling with a life-limiting illness and their families. Our care is provided in all or portions of 29 counties in eastern North Dakotya and western Minnesota. Care is provided wherever the individual calls home - a private residence, assisted living or long-term care facilities, group homes, etc.

Hospice is intensive comfort care that alleviates pain and suffering, enhancing quality of life. Hospice addresses the medical, emotional, spiritual, and grief needs of the patients and families.

At Hospice of the Red River Valley, the whole family, not just the patient, is cared for according to a plan personalized to each family’s needs and abilities. Services are provided in the patient’s home, a nursing home, an assisted living facility, or the hospital.
These services include:
• Medical care: Nursing visits are scheduled as often as necessary to insure maximum comfort and symptom management. A nurse is on call 24 hours a day for problem solving or a medical emergency.
• Emotional support: Community resources and staff social work services are available to help the family cope with the emotional stresses that are frequently present at this time.
• Spiritual care: The hospice chaplain will work with the family directly or through the family’s clergy in providing spiritual support and guidance.
• Assistance with day-to-day tasks: Help is available for such things as companionship, light housekeeping, running errands, etc.
• Grief support: Specialists in grief and loss offer follow up support to the family for up to thirteen months after the death of their loved one.

Hospice care, including the cost of equipment, supplies and medications related to the terminal diagnosis, are completely covered. However, our care is provided to all who need it regardless of ability to pay.

Has been diagnosed with a terminal illness;
Is making frequent trips to the hospital or ER;
Is decliining steadily; or
Has a chronic disease and is discouraged by, tired from, or requests nor further treatment . . .
It may be time to talk about hospice care.
