Description: Hospice care is a patient and family-centered approach to medical care and support for people who are near the end of life. The hospice care team includes, a doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors, and trained volunteers. In addition, family is considered an essential part of hospice care, and we encourage loved ones to be involved.

The interdisciplinary Hospice of New Mexico team consists of:

The patient and patient's family
The patient's personal physician
Hospice medical director
RN case managers
Home health aides
Licensed social workers
Therapy and treatment specialists
Hospice-trained volunteers

The hospice team works together focusing on the patient's needs; physical, psychological, or spiritual. The goal is to help keep the patient as pain-free as possible, with loved ones nearby until death. The hospice team develops a care plan that meets each patient's individual needs for pain management and symptom control.

The care given to my grandfather at the end of his life was better than we could have ever asked for. Special thanks to Dr.Torres for your special attention to ensure that he was comfortable.

Poor Quality

The nurse that was in charge of my family members care didnt seem that she knew much about the disease that she was supposed to be treating. The weekends were a nightmare! When we needed help it took hours to get someone out.

We do appreciate your response letting us know that we have fallen short on our commitment. We have medical personal on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.If you call 872-2300 and ask for a nursing supervisor, we will be happy to address you individual concerns. cold and lazy

In the time my family was in an emotional crisis the person who took my call was very cold and not helpful at all. They decided not to take my family member without sending out a doctor or a nurse to do an exam. Thank goodness that another hospice did thier job.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on your experience with us. We sincerely apologize for seeming to be unhelpful. However, I would like to to explain our action. Since January of this year, Medicare requirements for certification for hospice care have become much more stringent then they were in the past. In some cases, a face to face visit with a hospice physucian is required. We are are thankful that you have received the help you need and hope that this explains the situation more clearly.
