Great Midwife, great OB by
Andrea PA-C -
I was seen at Highland Ob/ Gyn for my first pregnancy which was filled with some minor and also major complications. I saw Ms Kelley, the midwife, for most of my care, and did not meet Dr Schutzer until late in my pregnancy since Ms Kelley was more than capable to handle the early pregnancy problems. I had to have an emergency C-section with the Cape Fear Valley on call OB on a weekend and developed complications that Dr Schutzer handled in stride.I am a certified midwife (trained in Germany) and also a Physician Assistant, and found the care at Highland quite adequate. They did not pressure me to do optional tests besides my advanced age during pregnancy. They even skipped some exams upon my request realizing that nothing could be done until after pregnancy anyways. They always had appointment available, worked with my tight schedule, and even called me ahead of time when they realized I had a pricey insurance deductible coming up at my next visit, giving me time to plan for that expense.
Worst experience to date by
I had the worst experience I've ever had at a medical office at Highland OB/GYN. I chose midwifery care for a more hands-off, holistic approach and a more personal relationship but instead was bullied and my husband and children were ignored. The midwife came in and introduced herself to me, and didn't acknowledge my husband or 2
children then immediately went into why she was performing some tests. No congratulations on the pregnancy or how are you feeling. I was made to feel like a had to have unnecessary tests performed that are not recommended by the OB BOM and when the midwife felt she wasn't getting through to me (I had only stated why and with current data I was choosing not to have the tests and that I respectfully declined) she went and got the doctor to try and bully me. We ended up walking out of the office and will never go back.
