Typically, documents to consider would include a Will, a Health Care Durable Power of Attorney, a Financial Durable Power of Attorney, and a Health Care Directive. Married persons may also want to consider a Community Property Agreement, which can avoid probate when the first spouse dies.

Wills also may include trusts for minor children, so that they don’t get control of substantial dollars until they get old enough to be “smart with money”, as well as guardianship provisions, for someone to take care of them until they reach adulthood, should their parents die.

These are typically done on a flat fee basis in Vancouver, Washington, taking two appointments, one for an initial interview, and a second a day or two later, to read and sign the Will and related documents. The cost for married persons is usually less than $450, and for single persons less than $300.
