Forshaw carries a wonderful selection of glass fireplace doors. We feature Portland Willamette, Bosse, and Residential Retreat. Portland offers the widest variety of doors of any manufacturer in America, and has been producing quality products since 1946. Bosse specializes in extremely heavy, beautiful doors that are truly hand-made works of art. Residential Retreat offers more modestly priced alternatives that will provide all the functionality of more expensive doors at a lower price.
Besides beautifying your fireplace, doors serve two other purposes as well. First, they prevent any sparks from escaping into your room. Typically, when you are burning your fireplace, you can leave the doors open and close the screen or gate mesh. This allows heat into the room, but gives you spark protection. When you're ready to leave, and the fire has burned down to a lower level, you can close the doors to prevent sparking. Since you have now shut off the fireplace's airflow from the room, you will lose no air (which you have paid to heat with your furnace) up the flue.
