The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection works to protect people, property and. more than 30 million acres of wildland. Established in 1905, the department responds to emergency calls and maintains a location in Yreka, Calif. Its fire academy offers training in the areas of law enforcement, fire protection, and resource and fire crew management.
