Often times, my customers will ask me where I learned my trade. I was 18 years old when my Mom forced me to go to a small tailoring school. In the beginning, I didn't like it but later on I realized she was right in forcing me to do this. Amazingly, in exactly one month, I was able to make a pair of pants by watching my fellow workers. In 1960, a month after I came to Manila to go to the real tailor shop. From 1960 until 1968, I learned how to make a jacket in one month. After that, jacket patterns and pants in one week. In 1970, I got married, in 1972, my wife and I opened up our own small tailor shop with 5 employees. In 1980, I came to this country. I rented a studio apartment which is where I started working. I dealt with lawyers in downtown San Diego. In 1988, one of my customers asked me where he can find a good jacket lining and I told him about Tony Felice, one of the best tailors in the world. He was one of the most expensive in San Diego. He uses a very good lining. Jim, my client came to Tony and Tony noticed the jacket he was wearing which I made for him. After Jim left, Tony called me and wanted to see me. The next day, I came to him and he offered me a good salary. That's where I started in 1988. He was unbelievable. After a month, Tony called all his friends and told them about me. I learned a lot from Tony because of all his great experience. I worked with him from 1988 until 2001 when Tony was unfortunately killed in a horrible car accident. I bought the business from the kids and again, I learned many things from Tony. Without him, I don't think I'd be here.
