Glaucoma
A comprehensive eye exam will evaluate how well you see & identify potential eye diseases. Visual acuity & refraction test to determine the degree to which you may be nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism. Color vision screening to see if you perceive colors properly. Muscle function test to check the movement of your eyes & identify muscle weakness or involuntary eye movement. Binocular vision assessment to ensure that your eyes work together properly as a team. This is important for proper depth perception, eye muscle coordination & the ability to change focus from near to far objects.
Special instruments evaluate the health of structures of the eye including cornea, lens, optic nerve & retina. Visual field test to measure your peripheral vision, the area to the sides when when you're looking straight ahead.
CONTACT LENSES
We take pride in providing our patients with the most advanced contact lens analysis & lens designs to ensure a lifetime of healthy vision & comfortable lens wear.
Once a comprehensive eye examination has been completed your doctor will evaluate your candidacy for contact lens wear & matched with a trial pair of contact lenses. A careful corneal health check is performed at each follow-up visit & once annually after successful lens wear has been established.
TREATMENT OF EYE INFECTIONS & RED EYE PROBLEMS
EMERGENCY EYE CARE (FOREIGN BODY, TRAUMA OR EYE PAIN)
Diabetic Retinopathy Symptoms & Signs
Floaters can be a sign of diabetic retinopathy. Sometimes difficulty reading or doing close work can indicate that fluid is collecting in the macula the most light-sensitive part of the retina. Another sign is double vision which occurs when the nerves controlling the eye muscles are affected. Diabetics should see their eye doctor at least once a year for a dilated eye exam. Diabetic retinopathy can be treated with laser therapy to seal leaking blood vessels.
Cataract Evaluations
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens which lies behind the iris & the pupil. The lens works much like a camera lens focusing light onto the retina in the back of the eye. The lens also adjusts the eye's focus letting us see clearly both close & far away. The lens is mostly made of water & protein arranged in a precise way that keeps the lens clear & lets light pass. But as we age some of the protein may clump together & start to cloud a small area of the lens.
Cataract Symptoms & Signs
A cataract starts out small & at first has little effect on your vision. You may notice your vision is blurred like looking through a cloudy piece of glass. A cataract may make sunlight seem bright or you may notice that oncoming headlights cause more glare than before.
Glaucoma Management
Your eye has pressure just like your blood and when this intraocular pressure increases to dangerous levels it damages the optic nerve. This can result in decreased peripheral vision & eventually blindness. The best way to prevent vision loss from glaucoma is early diagnosis & treatment. People at high risk for glaucoma due to high intraocular pressures, family history, ethnic background, age or optic nerve appearance may need more frequent visits to the eye doctor.
