RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!

Pete Hamm spends your money and then hide from you. He does not pay the subcontractors who does the work for him. If the subcontractors does not get paid, they can file a mechanical lien on your house or property. The room addition on the house was suppose to take six weeks and took seven months. The worst thing that has happen is that we had to entry into another contract so my house could get finish. I had to pay the subcontractor and go out shopping for the rest the supplies to finish the house. By Pete not paying the electrical and plumber they were going to pull their permits. This company also has different subcontractors coming to your house and they always seem to be firing the other subcontractors because the subcontractor is mad because they are not being paid. Who does he think will work for free? Pete Hamm is the biggest liar, rip off contractor, and untrustworthy person, who I ever had to deal with. If you want the work to be done and done when it is suppose to DON'T HIRE DEPENDABLE BUILDERS & RENOVATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEIR NAME SHOULD BE UNDEPENDABLE BUILDERS & RENOVATORS.

Undependable builders

This company owner is undependable. He over charge his customers. He got the contract in September 2008 and the first payment, but did not start on the job until November. As soon as a hole was dug, he came back for the second payment. He promise to finish the job in six weeks, but the job is not finish now and it January 21, 2009. His workers told us, he was not paying them. He has not kept his word on anything he said. Pete tried to change the contract he signed with us, so he could get cheaper supplies than we wanted in our house. If you call Pete, he will consent lies to you!! It is the dead of winter and my house is open. I will never do business with this man again nor would I recommend him to anyone else. I wish I never contract this company to do any work for me.

Before he got the contract with me he called my house consistency trying to get the job. He will try to take your business through his friend bank so they can charge you a whole lot of extra money for doing the loan. He will not listen to you and get a mortage loan on your house even if you tell him you don't want a mortage loan. The bank he goes to charges you for the paper and the ink to write the contract. What kind of business dealings are those?

I have nothing good to say about this company nor the owner. Pete Hamm should go out of business, with way he does business.

Never again

I hired Dependable Builders and Renovators to repair water and insect damage to my sill plate and band board due to an incorrectly installed deck, and also to install a patio door. Their representative met my wife and me at the local Home Depot and helped us select and order our door. We were told 4 weeks for delivery, then they would start on the entire project and knock it out in 2 to 3 days. That was in May. It's now mid October and the work has finally been completed. The first part of the project was a breeze. The door has been a nightmare. First my wife and I stopped in at the Home Depot where we'd placed the order a couple weeks prior to check on its progress. We were told that the order was canceled and given the associated paperwork. The representative evidently told Home Depot that we couldn't make up our minds on the door and to cancel the order. Then she re-ordered the door from another Home Depot store closer to their office. Then the wrong size door was delivered twice. Whether that's the fault of Dependable, Home Depot, or the supplier, I don't know. What I do know is that after the second door was propped in the rough opening there was a 2 1/2 inch gap at the top that they guys tried to fill using scrap lumber from the remains of my deck as a "header". We refused this door and had them re-install the old one. When they did so they installed the lock upside down and didn't seal or wrap it properly. To my chagrin, I only discovered the second part of this after having water cascade down the inside of the door during a monsoon. This wasn't the type of "workman like manner" that I expected when I signed the contract.

Then there were the smaller things that truly reflected poorly on the company. One day a crew was a no-show. The supervisor speculated to me that they were probably hung over (the "brown bag flu"). The next day, when a different crew showed up, one guy clearly was hung over, and the other was trying to gin up work on other parts of our house. Incredibly unprofessional. That crew, we're told, has since been fired, though I don't know if it was due to this particular event. In fact, virtually everyone that we've worked with over the course of the last 6 months is no longer with the company, including the only person who seemed to empathize with our position.

Then there's the issue of communication. Not only does the left hand not talk to the right with this company, but I don't even think they've even met. Emails and phone calls often went days without being returned. Messages and complaints would not go anywhere. When we changed our mind on the type of door we wanted installed (French to slider) the contract was never updated and, consequently everytime a different crew worked on the project they thought they were installing the wrong style.

The door is finally in and it looks great, but this has been a headache that I won't soon forget. I don't expect to ever call Dependable again. Maybe I should just learn how to do this stuff myself.
