With guidance from his father, a union carpenter, Mike DePalma joined the carpenters' union. He quickly became a foreman, and worked steadily over the next 20 years. In 1997, Mike started DePalma Contracting, Inc from a pay phone on a job site. At the same time his wife, Mary Jane, quit her job to run the daily operations of the new company. Mike and Mary Jane successfully ran the business together out of their home for the next seven years. In 2004, they bought, renovated and moved into a new office. After a couple years it was time to make a change and rejuvenate the business. That change came from a business coach. Mike and Mary Jane worked with their Coach to refresh the business and start to grow to another level. Just one year later, in 2007, their daughter, Jessica, joined the business as an estimator. The new addition to the company gave Mike the motivation he never had before. Over the next year Mike and Jessica worked hard together to develop the new DePalma Contracting By the end of the year the company had doubled its profits from the previous year. In 2008, they expanded the business and hired Anthony Polidoro to run a Southwest NJ Division to procure and run work south and west of Ocean County. Not long after, Ryan Terry joined the team as an estimator. Today, DePalma Contracting, Inc continues to grow and is always looking for new ways to expand their business.
