    Landscapes

by Professional and Timely , 05/17/2016

We had a covered patio and gas fire pit built by Cottonwood Landscapes in late 2015. The job was started when promised and completed within a couple of days to when it was contracted to be. Dan and Nate were professional at all times as were all of the workers who participated in the construction of this project. Benito and his crews were always professional, kind and informative when questions were asked. The construction of the project was performed in a timely manner and I would recommend this company to anyone looking to construct this type of project. The cost of the project was within the range discussed before the work began.

    Professional and Perfect Outcome!

    by Mel , 02/02/2016

We were held back a year and a half from the time that we had the bid from Cottonwood Landscapes until our HOA would approve the project. During that time, Cottonwood was instrumental in guiding us through approval with our HOA, and expertly shifted our project on their schedule to accommodate us. When we were finally approved the crew were timely and professional, careful to follow our strict noise ordinances, and finished with a beautiful patio just like we had described. We are happy to recommend Cottonwood Landscapes as a service that offers attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to getting the job done and done right.

DO NOT WORK WITH COTTONWOOD LANDSCAPES- THE OWNER IS A FRAUD

    by Nikki , 11/17/2015

We worked w/ Dan at Cottonwood Landscapes starting May of 2015 through October, 2015. We ended up paying $6,000 over what his initial bid came in at! Dan left permit costs out of the bid claiming he did not know permits would be necessary. We live in the avenues and Dan claimed to be working on other projects in the area, yet somehow had no idea permits were required. When it came to the permits it was entirely up to me to secure them. I spent over 6 hours at the city building figuring out what documentation I needed and who I needed to meet with in order to secure these permits. I had to measure out the walkway entirely by myself and draw up a diagram showing the city where the walkway would be in regards to the waterline. I ended up having to go to 2 DRT meetings. I had to get blueprints of the walkway plan from Dan's architect to present to the city and after all that work I did by myself at the city building I ended up having to pay Dan for the work of the architect. Please keep in mind I asked the architect to meet me at the meeting and he showed up 20 minutes late and missed the whole thing, but Dan charged me for his time anyway. Dan also didn't include the cost to move dirt, which is strange since our main concern was moving dirt, so that moisture would not run in to our home. He claimed we opted out of dirt removal. And when it came to our patio Dan's plans only included 2 walls instead of the 3 it needed for completion. Dan completely left out the third wall so we had an entire wall of dirt falling into our patio.Dan also did not include the RainBird sprinkler control dial in the bid. He included a sprinkling system yet charged us an extra $300 to put in a dial so that we could actually turn the sprinklers on. Dan also found the cheapest concrete company to work with for our front walkway, so that he could make more overhead. They dug the walkway out 6 inches too close to a fire hydrant, which required them to come back and do the job 2x. While pouring the patio they damaged our driveway and we had to fight to get them to come back and correct the issue. They also completely over poured the walkway leaving edges that were not smooth, but instead had piles of hard cement connected to them which killed off our existing grass that runs alongside the walkway. The concrete company also hid mounds of extra cement underneath dirt in our front yard, which we found while shoveling ....Trying to remove the dirt that Dan didn't include in his contract. Another strange thing about working with Dan is every time I would write him a check I would make the checks out to Cottonwood Landscapes and every time Dan would send these checks back requesting that I make them out to him personally, Dan Cloward. I don't know why Dan would want us to pay him personally and not make it out to his company unless he was hiding income from the government or from his employees. In his contract, Dan promised that our project would be substantially completed within 2 weeks from the start date. The start date was supposed to be July 24th. Dan missed the start date by a week and our project did not get finished until October. Dan seemed like such a nice guy when we first met him, but Dan became completely unresponsive once we signed the original bid/contract. I called Dan numerous times to get updates on when our project might be completed and he never answered my phone calls. In fact, one night I called Dan 3 times from my cell phone and he did not answer so I decided to call him blocked just to see if he might answer ...you guessed it ....he answered. He provides absolutely no customer service. Working w/ Dan and Cottonwood Landscapes was an absolute nightmare. If I could give you any advice it would be to not to fall for his low bids and friendly attitude upon first meeting. It is well worth the extra money to find someone whose bid comes in a little bit higher but who will be honest and get your job done right and on time.

Pay the extra and protect your wealth

As the owner of Cottonwood Landscapes, Dan came up himself and did the bid. He was overly friendly during this meeting and his bid came in at the best price! We ended up paying $6,000 over what his initial bid came in at! He left permit costs out of the bid claiming he did not know permits would be necessary. We live in the avenues and Dan claimed to be working on other projects in the area, yet somehow had no idea permits were required in the historical district. I had to measure out the walkway entirely by myself and draw up a diagram showing the city where the walkway would be in regards to the waterline. I ended up having to go to 2 DRT meetings because during the first meeting I did not have what I needed. I thought this was what I was paying him for but he assured me that it was my responsibility as the homeowner and that he did not have to do anything with the permits as the contractor. I had to get blueprints of the walkway plan from Dan's architect to present to the city. after all that work I did by myself at the city building I ended up having to pay Dan for the work of the architect. Please keep in mind I asked the architect to meet me at the meeting and he showed up 20 minutes late, but Dan charged me for his time. Dan also didn't include the cost to move dirt, which is strange since our main concern was moving dirt so that moisture would not run in to our home. Dan completelyeft out the third wall so we had an entire wall of dirt falling into our patio since the paver stones were not stacked up in a wall formation as they had been on the other two sides. Dan also did not include the Rainbird sprinkler control dial in the bid. He included a sprinkling system yet charged us an extra $300. He puts in the pipes and the sprinkler heads, but you will have no way to turn them on. They also dug the walkway out 6 inches too close to a fire hydrant, which required them to come back and do the job twice, while leaving excess dirt for us to deal with. While pouring the patio they damaged our driveway and we had to fight to get them to come back and correct the issue. They also completely over poured the walkway leaving edges that were not smooth, but instead had piles of hard cement connected to it which killed off our existing grass that runs along side it. The concrete company also hid mounds of of extra cement underneath dirt in our front yard, which we found while shoveling.Trying to remove the dirt that Dan didn't include in his contract . Another strange thing about working with Dan is every time I would write him a check for the deposit and payments I would make the checks out to Cottonwood Landscapes, his company. Every time Dan would send these checks back requesting that I make them out to him personally, Dan Cloward. In his contract, Dan promised that our project would be substantially completed within two weeks from the start date. The start date was supposed to be July 24. Dan missed the start date by a week and our project did not get finished until November. He was truly going to take care of us, but Dan became completely unresponsive once we signed the original contract. In fact, one night I called Dan three times from my cell phone and he did not answer so I decided to call him blocked. It had probably only been two minutes since I had called him unblocked yet he still answered the blocked number. In fact, we got in to a screaming match on the phone... that's right ...Dan screams at his customers. It was absolutely astonishing to me that I had to call Dan blocked to get him to answer my phone calls. Even when we were trying to get Dan our final payment we could not get a hold of him. We wanted to discuss our contract with him before we sent in the check and it took him two weeks to give us a call back. He claimed to be too busy and apparently couldn't find five free minutes in two weeks to get back to us. Working with Dan and Cottonwood Landscapes was an absolute nightmare.

Designed & built a beautiful patio with pavers

by The Gibson Family , 02/26/2015

We had Cottonwood Landscape take our design to build us a patio, walk area and raised planters in 2013. They took our rough design and made it into something that we continue to get constant compliments on including adding the fire pit area. The additional design features they did just made the space into something that we totally enjoy. We needed the work done for an upcoming wedding in our backyard. They came in ahead of the original start date and their team just got it done. They were just great to deal with and I can't say enough about how they took care of the job site while in construction.

Love it all after 5 years!

    by SBN , 02/11/2015

We had Cottonwood landscaping do a number of things for us in our yard five years ago. They build a patio covering, put in pavers in a circular pattern, sprinklers, and yard plant mapping. I was very happy with their work. The pavers have stayed firm and still look beautiful! We loved that plant suggestions they gave us as well as the yard design. We now get many compliments on how lovely our yard is!

    Cottonwood Landscapes Project

    by Sid Young , 02/11/2015

The design of the landscaping project was excellent, very creative. The construction of the Project was very well managed, even though the location of the work was difficult. I appreciate their work very much!

    Landscaping and Deck

    by Steve & Carla , 02/09/2015

Cottonwood landscaping developed an integrated design for a patio and deck that transformed the back of our home from a dated, unused space to our favorite place to spend time. Support and communications have been good, and we would (and have) definitely call them again for our next project.

    They Can Do It All

by Rich and Shelley , 02/09/2015

We've used Cottonwood Landscapes for a variety of things for the last few years. We first hired them for ideas on general landscaping in both our front and backyards. Their ideas were terrific: re-designing flower beds, better use of shrubs and trees, etc. They made our yard come alive. And when they re-designed our flower beds, they also re-designed our sprinkler system, to match. So now, our flowers and shrubs get the amount of water they need, while our lawn gets the water it needs. We've also used them to replace our back patio with pavers ... and we couldn't be happier. The patio is beautiful. Last year, they helped us with replacing our old wooden fence with a new Trex a fence. Again, we couldn't be happier with the results. In fact, we are using them again this year to help us with other landscaping needs we have. Shelley and I view this as an on-going relationship ... not a one-time project. They know our yard, our needs and what works best for us.The people at Cottonwood Landscapes, from Kevin to Garry to Nate, are all terrific to work with. They listen to your needs and deliver. Always on time and on budget.

A Beautiful Addition to Our Landscape

    by Marion , 02/06/2015

After looking at a number of potential landscape companies, we hired Cottonwood Landscapes to build block retaining walls around three sides of our decks last fall. Gardening is my passion, so I'm very particular about the design, material, and quality of the work. The retaining walls are everything I hoped they would be and really add to the overall design of our backyard. I can't wait to plant the new beds between the wall and the decks. Probably the best recommendation I can give is that I have already hired Cottonwood Landscapes to do some additional projects this year.
