But we aren’t just a free preschool. Our additional health, dental and family support services ensure that we bring out the best in the children and families who enroll. Right now, 10,752 children in El Paso County are living in poverty. These children are more likely to later drop out of school, commit crimes, become teen parents and depend on public assistance. This can all be changed with an early childhood education and family support. Investing in children birth to age five will make sure El Paso County has a bright future.

CPCD offers comprehensive early childhood education and family programs for prenatal women and children birth through five who live in limited-income households, and children with special needs.

Most of our programs are free for qualifying families.*


We accept enrollments year round and place children in our programs throughout the year as openings occur. Our classrooms are located in five El Paso County school districts (2,3,8,11, 20 and 49). Children located in other districts may still be eligible.

There are two easy ways to enroll:

1. Give us a call and ask for Enrollment.

2. Visit our enrollment office any time Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. We are located at 2330 Robinson St., Colorado Springs, CO. 80904. (Map below). Please bring your child's birth certificate, immunization record, your picture ID, your family's proof of income (i.e. W-2's, income tax forms, TANF award letter, SSI, LES, Foster Care, pay stubs).

What do the children learn in the program?

Our primary curriculum is the Creative Curriculum. Teachers use developmentally appropriate practices to teach social/emotional skills, literacy and languages skills, cognitive skills and physical skills. Other instructional resources such as “ECE Cares”, “I am Moving I am Learning”, pedestrian safety, and nutrition activities are incorporated into the lesson plans, along with other enriching activities. Children experience a play-based experience focused on their specific developmental needs. All children, regardless of ability, are included in the classroom.

Head Start is our largest and best known program providing educational, physical and mental health, and nutritional services to children 3 to 5 years of age. Families receive education and support to assist them in fulfilling their role as their child's first and best teacher. We are currently serving 1,034 children and their families in the Head Start Program.


Early Head Start serves pregnant women and children birth to age three, to enhance the development of very young children while promoting healthy family functioning and school readiness.
