Description
Columbia Academy is a private school in West Linn, Oregon for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students. Our dedicated and inspired staff teaches integrity as well as academics, in a warm and stimulating environment the students truly love. Since 1983, we have served Portland-area families seeking the ideal place for their children to learn and grow.We offer:

The Columbia Academy program is well-rounded, providing a strong foundation in the basics. Every aspect of a student's individualized program is intended to challenge and motivate without being overwhelming. Lessons are kept new and interesting, and never involve "busy" work. Consequently, students never lose their sense of purpose or feel as though they are wasting time, which can so easily occur in a large class or a less flexible program. What's really exciting is the confidence and enthusiasm that comes with academic achievement. Students enjoy their time at Columbia Academy and leave with the tools they need to succeed in middle school, high school and beyond.

Best school ever by ngpetersen3 - 10/30/2008Columbia Academy has been able to offer many things to my family that no other school has.
My son is in the 3rd grade. He has read well over 700 books since he started this program and is 6 years old. My daughter also attends the school. She just turned 5 and reads to me everyday.
It+s not just the academics though; one of the best things I find about this school is the ethics. The kids are so well-behaved and all have such a sense of pride about helping one another. Whenever something happens to my son like falling in the mud, I never hear of another child making fun of him, but instead how they help him to the restroom with a fresh set of clothes to change into. The amount of comfort and joy that Columbia Academy gives not only to my son and daughter but to my family as well is truly beyond words.
A GREAT school for ALL students! by wolfepdx - 10/29/2008Columbia Academy provides a wonderfully stimulating, nurturing, learning environment where kids really thrive. The school offers a very low student to teacher ratio. The teachers are extraordinarily dedicated to creating an energetic and enthusiastic class room that helps all of the students excel and reach their highest potential. The students foster a love of learning inside and outside of the class room. When my child wanted to attend Winter Workshop at Columbia Academy (an extension of school offered over the holiday vacation), rather than enjoy the holiday vacation at home with her family, we knew we had found an exceptional school for her!
Our saving grace....literally! by MsEm - 10/28/2008My daughter was 4 years old when we found Columbia Academy...she had been having a VERY difficult time - - period. We had been to ALL the most respected Pre-schools around and none were working for her. Columbia Academy was the 1st place where the teacher sat down & listened to her issues, difficulties, etc. and told us point blank...we can help. My daughter is now 9 years old..has learned to LOVE learning and appreciate that the education is HERS to use. She has excelled at all aspects of her education and actually been able to skip a grade level. We were so impressed, we pulled another (older) child out of a VERY good public school system (West Linn) in order to give her the opportunity to gain the love of learning and intangible benefit of life long learning skills. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone investing in their childs future through Columbia Academy.
Thanks to Columbia, my daughter believes in herself and loves learning! by lambkim - 10/28/2008We've been very fortunate to have lived in the West Linn school district where we have access to some of the best public education in the State. For one daughter, the public schools have worked just great. For my other daughter, we needed another approach. Despite the public school's impressive effort to find out what was holding my very bright daughter back, we all watched as the self-esteem and confidence of my very bright and passionate daughter gradually started to go away.
In addition to the highly flexible and customized approach, Columbia's 100% comprehension philosophy is exactly what my daughter needed. We started out almost a year behind in math, and by the end of the 1st year tested at the top of her level for her age/grade level. That's a lot of catch up! We did so without nightly homework battles, and more so, watched in disbelief as our daughter took responsibility for her own education, setting her own goals and being accountable to herself. We're all thrilled!
